XBOX 360 or PS3? And why...

How in the fuck is a 360 going to support 1080p when it doesn't have HDMI? The Elite has HDMI not the original XBOX 360. Also the Eilite supports HDMI 1.2 the PS3 is HDMI 1.3
Or you can get a PS3 and have wi-fi built in. That's kind of the point. No extra cost. Microsoft loves to tout how good the 360 is for online gaming, but yet doesn't include wi-fi on it's console. WTF?The wireless adapter is over priced. You're better off just getting a wireless access point for $50, works just as well.Comment

I've always been a Sony guy but got the 360 around Christmas time because a few of my buddies had it and I figured we could all play on XBox live. Unfortunately it died already and I'm currently in customer service hell waiting to get the "coffin" box that they send to you so you can send the console in to get fixed.
I've done some reading on the XBox forums and apparently when you send in your console to get it fixed they send you back a different refurbished one or a new one if necessary. There's been a lot of people who say that shortly after getting the "new" fixed unit back that they then have disc tray issues. Plus since it is a different console with a differnt serial number any of the content purchased through the XBox Live marketplace can not be used online becasue the serial number is different.
I agree that Sony dropped the ball in waiting to release the PS3 but MS definitely dropped the ball by rushing out the 360 which I think is apparent after they extended the warranty from 3 months to one year because so many people were having issues. If you do decide to get the 360 definitely get the extended in store warranty so if you do have issues you can just bring it back to the store and not have to go through MS at all...Comment

Yes it does, has since last year. My Samsung takes a 1080P signal over component and VGA. If a set doesn't accept 1080P over component (like most Sony sets), then 99% of them will take 1080P over VGA.
All the games are currently upscaled to 1080P if you choose that option in the dashboard, and there are some 1080P native games coming out as well, the most recent one is Virtua Tennis 3.Comment

Well, 360 has more games currently, hands down. In regards to exclusives, PS3 has lost many 3rd party exclusives due to their dismal sales. Had the PS3 come out when the 360 did, they would not have lost them. Game companies need multi-million units of their games sold to turn enough profit to continue. In regards to the 1st party exclusives, both companies offer very similar options (ie GT vs Forza ).Originally posted by OysteinI am in need of a new console and I am torn on which one to get or just to buy both.
Which one is better, why, and who has better (or more) games?
Comparatively speaking, both systems will pretty much run even this time around. The PS3 will have an advantage in the long term do to some new hardware, bluetooth + the built in Blue-ray drive, but it is still pretty pricey right now.
I'd go with a 360 for right now. By the end of the summer, the PS3 may or may not get a price cut, but it will definitely have a package offering where it will come with some free games, a 2nd controller etc, for the same price tag it is now, just like the 360 summer bundle (PG3, 3month live, 1250pts) did and they still continue to bundle.Formerly known as Adult Rental Chris

Yes, as does the PS3. But it's up the game manufactures not the console. Both consoles support textures up to 1080 and also upconvert 480p/720p to 1080i/p. I think virtual tennis 3 and nba homecourt are the only games on the 360 currently that use 1080 textures. None on the PS3, yet. Though by the end of this year I sure they'll be a quit a few for both consoles.
lol, you think you need HDMI for 1080p?
The only real advantage HDMI offers is content protection(DRM). The rest is just marketing hype.
The difference between HDMI 1.2 and 1.3 is the support of DD+ and TrueHD lossless audio. Unless you have high grade audio equipment there's little chance you'll hear the difference.264-543-302Comment

PS3 is definitely the way to go. Not only are the graphics potentially way better, but the game selection is going to be very good later on down the road. Once GTA4 comes out I may even go get me a console.Justin Baker

I have both and ps3 is useless
I haven't turned on my ps3 in more than 2 months . There is no games for it at all and all the games that are out for it look better on the 360 plus I can play those games online with my friends on xbox live. I should have waited at least a year to get a ps3.Comment
