I do, but it's not a traditional line; it's VoIP. I find it useful to have another calling option for 3 reasons:
1. My cell phone (Sprint) doesn't always get great service.
2. VoIP direct international dialing rates are much cheaper than cell phone international plans, especially to foreign cell/mobile numbers. I don't like jumping through calling card hoops. Calling cards suck!
3. 3rd benefit is the speaker phone is better quality
for when you have to call places that require u to hold, which I hate!
I also have a USA cell and a foreign tri-band for travel, but even though it's not my main phone contact anymore, a land line still has its place.
If you think you're too cool to use a land line:

I agree home phones are more dependable, unfortunately you have to be home to use them...Comment

Home and business still on landlines. When cell phone techology is perfected (especially indoors) I'll drop my landlines. Nothing more annoying than dropped calls and dead air...Comment

Neither does my bluetooth earpice

I haven't had a land line in over 4 years. With 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited long distance, unlimited nights and weekends... seriously, what is the point.Comment

I have VoiP and landline phones at home.
Why not? Costs f*ck all and doesn't hurt to have the option, as previously mentioned, in case of emergency. The VoiP and Skype are mainly used for international calls.
The landline is mostly for abusing telemarketers! ;)Paul

yes, simply because I have had that number since I moved to the UK and I don't want to lose it since there are some people that would have it as their only way of getting in contact with me. Plus, VOIP isn't as developed here..if I was in the States I probably wouldn't have a landline.Comment

We have vonage, and I have been toying with the notion of just going to our cell phones. But something about that idea makes me uneasy.
Not sure why, as we generally have good cell service. Probably just the psycho in me. I had a hard enough time switching to vonage. This nagging thought of 'what if we really are in the Matrix' wouldn't go away for the longest time.

I don't think I'd ever get rid of my home phone line because of 2 main reasons, first off, like others, the reception is bad and I'm not sure it's gonna ever get better because I'm in a small town, kinda at a dead end part of the state, surrounded by water, so why would they invest in more towers for this area, and secondly, I work from home, so I'm at home most of the time, so there's really no sense to only have a cell phone.
I even thought of a 3rd reason to have a home line. If you're married with kids and wanted to call home, how would you do it if you only had a cell phone ?? I suppose the answer to that question would be that every family member in the house would need to have a cell phone.Comment
