I got into 976 numbers after I read a small article in Time magazine talking about Pacific Bell had new phone numbers where you would pay by the minute to listen to information.
The next day I was out buying equipment and developing ideas.
Grabbed some killer vanity names for the numbers so people would remember them, just like web domains now. And went out and started marketing my butt off.

I was the same with Java in a tiny sentence in one of the first issues of WIRED -- too bad wasn't running IBM at that age... I think people really had faith in Netscape back then...
