words only have meaning when one gives them meaning... they can only insight violence when they conjure emotions. those who deny/ignore american history pretend they don't understand the reason for black people's problem with people of other races using this word. the position isn't correct or fair, neither was the treatment suffered by those who lived in the era. accept it as generally offensive to black americans for 'whites' to use the word and generally accepted for 'blacks' to use the word amongst themselves or even with those of another race. simple.
