Rumors were frequent at the time of the uprising, surely the Romans didnt believe in any of the Jewish ones, Pontius Pilate had ordered many executions over his ten year reign, I dont think there are detailed records of executed rebels.

Actually it was the Jewish leaders that wanted Jesus executed. Pilate really wanted nothing to do with something that was basically a "jewish" problem. Pilate was nothing more than a local governor. You act like he was emperor or something.Comment

Global warming isnt a "minority" opinion. HUMAN-caused global warming IS.
Get your facts straight. Your argument that the Romans thought Jesus was important enough to document his life and death is WEAK.Comment

There arent any - he was made up just like the rest of the stories - it was just an "Inconvenient Truth" conjured to make a religion - just like the rest of them - now if you want some real truth - search out the thetans and you will find everything you were looking for - it'll just cost ya a little

My point is that people shouldn't take things on blind faith but look into them a little more carefully. There is no consensus on Jesus' historicity.Comment

You are retarded. Seriously you are. Do you know what OWNED means? because the "ladies and gentlemen" here think you're a dipshit.
We both believe that Jesus wasn't the son of god, did not perform miracles and did not rise from the dead yet you are arguing with me. That's make you a serious retarded dumbfuck. Oh and you are officially notified that you are now on my IGNORE list so you can stop replying to my posts. Well you can but you'll look even more retarded if that's even possible.Comment

You're a pretty poor atheist. You believe things for no reason and present the History Channel as evidence for your argument. Then you get all cranky when someone destroys your case. You are retarded. You'd make a better theist.

Actually I would argue that the testaments, the quran, and the gnostic texts are all "somewhat factual". I mean there is no PROOF of the big bang, you cant even prove it scientifically yet it is taught and many people believe it. The point is you completely discount religious texts from that region as inaccurate based on your feelings about religion.Comment
-
Lets face it - none of us know what happened - if anything happened at all.
We will all find out when we kick the bucket - until then do what you think is right.Comment

I don't discount that there are elements of these texts that may contain historical facts. But you cannot use them as conclusive evidence of the existance of Jesus Christ. You need external confirmation from secular sources. There are a couple but as I said they are disputed as interpolations and mistaken identity. There are many who believe that Jesus Christ is pure myth.Actually I would argue that the testaments, the quran, and the gnostic texts are all "somewhat factual". Ok now you are playing a game of words, you said "Jesus Christ" which of course there are many in this world who believe he is a myth as the Christ.I don't discount that there are elements of these texts that may contain historical facts. Fact is you are very outnumbered, 55% of the world believe Jesus existed historically without a doubt(all Muslims and Christians) and 80% of Americans believe Jesus existed without a doubt.
Lol so let me get this straight you want a NON-religious text to mention a simple mad carpenter who was crucified at the request of his own people because of that persons religious practices?
The Romans WOULDNT document that, they were simply giving the Jews what the Jews wanted so the Jews would shut the fuck up about Jesus. Jesus was nothing more than a madman in their eyes.
You make no sense, Jesus didnt have much fame with non-Jews till right before his death and even then it was extremely localized. Your argument that they should document his life/death is weak.Last edited by Splum; 04-05-2007, 09:41 PM.Comment

I cant believe that me being here is just dumb luck and pure coincidence.
I consider myself to be scientific and logical and if you think about things in that way you realise there must be something else we just don't know about yet playing a part.Comment

I know I'm outnumbered, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Nor those who agree with me.Ok now you are playing a game of words, you said "Jesus Christ" which of course there are many in this world who believe he is a myth as the Christ.

Jesus supposedly performed great miracles. Here's a list:
MIRACLE SCRIPTURE PASSAGE
Turns water into wine John 2.1-11
Orders the wind and waves to be quiet Mark 4.35-41
Walks on water Matthew 14.22-33
With five loaves and two fishes, feeds a crowd of about 5,000 people Matthew 14.13-21
Raises Lazarus to life John 11.17-44
Raises a dead girl to life Matthew 9.18-26
Gives sight to a man born blind John 9.1-41
Cures the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years Matthew 9.20-22
Cures a man of evil spirits Mark 5.1-20
Heals ten men with leprosy Luke 17.11-19
Heals a crippled man Mark 2.1-12
Heals a man who was deaf and could hardly talk Mark 7.31-37
Heals the high priest’s servant after the man's ear is cut off Luke 22.49-52
He was passing himself off as the king of the jews. Jewish religious leaders of the time wanted him dead. He was not an ordinary citizen by any means and should have rated a mention.Comment

Lol he was mentioned in the very books you just used as sources to cite his miracles.I know I'm outnumbered, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Nor those who agree with me. Jesus supposedly performed great miracles. Here's a list:

Come on buddy show me a non-secular source for those miracles.
Look just because the Jews wrote about his "miracles" didnt mean the Romans believed it. Again the Romans REALLY thought Jesus was simply a mad man and actually took pity on him by offering to crucify a murderer instead. You give Jesus WAY too much credit for being important to the Romans. The Roman never thought for a second that Jesus would be remembered and worshipped for thousands of years.

If the new testament is the only evidence of the historical jesus then that aint much.Lol he was mentioned in the very books you just used as sources to cite his miracles.

If I believe the bible there is no reason why I shouldn't believe every other religious text from every other religion as well.Comment

This is the one thing I've never understood about BoyAlley. He loves to constantly reference the conservative rights intolerance towards the gay lifestyle. Yet, he displays just as much if not more intolerance and hate towards their beliefs."WTF, on google you can find the answer to every question in human history, EXCEPT how to convert cams..
Its crazy..."

Actually no like I said before the Quran mentions Jesus many times. I am not asking you to "believe" everything in the Bible or any other text, that is up to you to determine if you believe works of text like Wikipedia are false or truth. Obviously somewhere in the middle is more likely the truth.Comment

I only believe something in wikipedia if it is referenced and backed up by other sources. The fact Jesus get a few mentions in the Quran just tells me that myths spread. The Quran paints a completely different picture of jesus than the new testament. You can believe one, the other or none. That doesn't change the fact that evidence of jesus historicity is poor.Actually no like I said before the Quran mentions Jesus many times. It's 12:04am on the east coast, let me be the first to say:
Happy "Jesus Got Murdered Today" Day!
This is one of the few holy days that I celebrate.
My partner and I are going out to dinner tonight to commemorate the occasion.
I went and looked yesterday but they don't make balloons or hats or anything for this day for some reason.
They need to I would buy some.
