best bike for 300 or under?

I'm looking to buy a bike just to ride around the city for fun but i haven't rode since highschool so i have no idea whats good these days and what isn't. I saw a nice shwinn but i don't know much about em. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks.

Btw, comfort is probably most important. I don't want something that hurts my ass. i don't need anything fancy, I won't be using it daily or anything. Just something to get out on once in a while.

Yeah i know what you mean. Someone here in Ottawa got hit by a bus on one not too long ago. I think I'm going to stick mostly to bike trails.

you should go to good bike shop and window shop...get your bike measurements and pickup a used one online....

but like someone posted, new bikes under $300 r not tat good....try and get a good used one or up the budget for a new one...

so go to any sports store and buy a bike where the frame between the handles and seat is two inches below ur crotch when bike is between ur legs while standing. when riding make sure knees do not touch handles or rise above them.

doesnt matter what brand, color or race -- they are all shit at $300

Gary Fisher makes a couple real nice bikes close to that price range
