Meth will literally destroy your cells, including brain cells... making it very difficult to retain many short term memories, mess up your ability to communicate and affect your nervous system to the point of losing control over your body. They get VERY shaky and uncoordinated.

Smokes will rot you, but not to the extent or the speed that meth does. Meth will radically change your appearance and IQ within 2 years time and that damage can never be undone.

The difference is that smokers do it for 50+ years, so the effects are visible by the end. Meth addicts have a 20 year life span beyond the start of their addiction. And that's only the lucky ones. If a smoker died within 20 years of starting, it's not likely you'd ever compare the two.
You drink alcohol every day, you might die. You eat big macs every day, you might die. You smoke meth every day, you might die. If you fucking sit and drink gallon after gallon of water all day, you might die. You lay out in the sun, you're fucking up your skin. Their are health risks associated with everything we do in life. Let people make their own choices.

Not to mention your whole argument is about addicts. Alcohol is a perfect example of a substance with huge addiction potential that the majority of people are able to use moderately and responsibly. I know it's not good for my liver when I go out and drink every now and then. But it's my liver. My choice.

I'm not for legalizing drugs so more people can use them and fuckup their lives. That's their choice. I'm for legalizing them so that the shit is taken off the streets. There is a huge criminal underground because of prohibition. Drug cartels and all that shit shouldn't exist. Let corporations run the trade properly and legally like with booze and cigarettes.

You said it yourself over and over again "might die".... if you use meth, you WILL die. That's the difference. Meth WILL mess you up and destroy every piece of humanity you have left.
If you have a big mac, you can diet. If you drink too much, you can join AA... you can't recover from METH as easily. It's certainly possible, but you'll never get back to 100%. Never.

And the reason I'm talking about an addict is because eating big macs is a habit. Drinking can be a habit. With meth, there is no inbetween. There are no "meth habits" out there. You don't do meth and not be addicted to it.

You can rationalize it any way you want, but meth is a killer. It destroys you from the inside out FAST. The other things you mentioned do... but no where near as fast, no where near as devastatingly.

And as I said before, Meth is a choice that they make for themselves, but there are almost always other victims, such as children. If I eat big macs and die at 80 instead of 90, my child might shed a tear. If I do meth now and die at 40, my child might grow up wondering who I was.

How can you even compare the two? People who use drugs are abusing their own bodies. Are you gonna lock someone up for attempted suicide? No. You get them help. Thats what addicts need, help. Prison isnt' a deterant, if it was there wouldn't be millions locked up. Murderers spend 15-25-life in prison for taking someones life. Its not comparable by a long shot.

This is why I do not bother arguing with people who view drug use as a "crime." They simply do not have the mental capacity to even begin to grasp the idea that "drug use is a public health issue, not a crime." They cannot even begin to understand the concept of liberty or justice.

Drug use is a public health issue, not a criminal matter

If drug abuse is a crime, then alcoholics should be jailed too. Heroin addicts have methadone clinics to keep them loaded. Why not just jail every person who is addicted to anything?

There is no need to argue with these people, theyll never understand.

addiction can destory you. overdosing can kill you. but that can be said about any substance illegal or legal. if every person that ever used meth died from it, no one would use it and there wouldn't be these problems lol. you choose to blame the chemical, i'll blame the mechanism that really causes the death and destruction. that is physical addiction.

like i already said. it's a fact that smoking tobacco will shorten your life, but we let people do it. no one is sucking dick or selling everything they own for tobacco or booze because it's legally available. families are ruined every day when people have heart attacks or develop diabetes. we still let people induldge in the substances that contribute to these conditions. we still let people fry their skin every day in the sun. IT'S THEIR CHOICE! it's up to YOU personally to weigh the negative and positive results from your actions. no one elses. someone can pickup a gun, blow their brains out, and totally ruin their family. but we still allow people to own guns and use them properly.

I UNDERSTAND everything your saying, I just don't AGREE 100% with what your saying. It's not an argument either, were all just voicing our opinions. There's a lot of ways to look at it. I agree in the fact that it's a public health issue, but it's definitely a criminal matter too. When the addicts start to steal, kill, or do whatever else it takes to get money or substance to feed their addiction, it becomes a huge criminal matter. That's when they should be arrested. I don't think they should be arrested just for using. And you're right, it's the same thing with alcohol. You shouldn't be arrested for drinking, but when you drink and put innocent people in danger that's a problem. I'm not saying I'm right, your right, or anybody's right. It's just my views.

but can't you see that this crime occurs because of the prohibition? look at what happened with alcohol when the mob was running shit. violence, murder, crime.
