    So my God Daughter .....

    Is now pregnant at 17. I have no clue how to handle this. Has anyone had this happen? She was on BC but had to take antibiotics we all know what that means, her mother and I stressed how she needed to use condoms but as most 17 year old she ignored us.

              Im feeling nice today so I wont make any crude remarks but abortion is not the answer, try adoption there are MANY couples out there who want babies.

              Even you uber-liberals here will agree that giving a baby up for adoption to a gay couple is better than killing it.

                              She's 17 so she wants to have the baby and keep going to school, the one thing is she's gotten all A from kindergarten till now. This is her last year of high school and she was looking forward to going to UNC dental program.

                                                              I know its stressful, but it doesn't have to be a bad experience. I am sure she is scared too, and is feeling very confused. I would suggest to sit down with her and ask her how she feels. Maybe let her know about her options and talk with her mom too. This is so common now that there are lots of people going through the same thing and talk about it in groups and blogs...maybe check those out too! Hope this helps.

                                                                                                          Happened to a dear friend of the family...she too was 17. Got knocked up by a THUG loser ...was very difficult at first for the family to deal with. However two years down the road with a very strong support system from her IMMEDIATE family (and with the Thug in prison) they now have a wonderful little baby who brings joy and laughter. It helped bond the family actually!

                                                                                                          Do not care what others think - do whats best for HER - be there for her no matter what. Withouth knowhing the situation with the sperm donor, She will most likely make rash and dumb decisions with hopes of having a family, etc. But in time things will work out and get better. You will LOVE that baby,. Hope all goes well - sending he positive thoughts!

                                                                                                                      Unless her mother or someone closely related to her is down for watching that baby pretty much all day while she's in medical school, there is no way this girl is going to have the life she planned for herself and become a dentist. If she wants to focus on school, her best options are abortion or adoption. Depending on how far along she is, abortion is basically murder so I would go the adoption route.

                                                                                                                      There are a lot of couples that can't have children and will even pay all her medical bills, etc. to adopt the baby. Babies are easy (rationally, not necessarily emotionally) to give up for adoption, because they usually end up in great homes. Given her scholastic background she would be seen as a responsible person to adopt from. It seems like it was a pretty big mistake she made, but other than that she probably won't be drinking and smoking crack during the pregnancy so she could be a prime candidate.

                                                                                                                      In the end, it should be her choice to make. Once she has the facts she basically has to pick adoption, abortion or "keep it". The decision will most likely change her life, but that's how it is.

Can't talk to her about giving it up for adoption because that sounds easier then it sounds. Abortion is a very difficult topic and may be something she'll regret the rest of her life, and won't be fair to the fetus.

                                                                                                                                          Just make sure she finishes school, but make sure B/F is ready to pay up and support the baby 100% one way or another.

                                                                                                                                          She shouldn't give up her career plans because of this.

                                                                                                                                          Sounds easy from the outside, good luck either way. Hope it all works out for you.

I know several women who had a baby at 18 and now in their 30s they are in decent jobs.

                                                                                                                                                          I know a girl who did med school after having a kid on 1st or 2nd year, she's also still together with the father and they are really happy together (he was in college with her)...

                                                                                                                                                          it all depends on the circunstances (how mature she is, can the family provide support during college years, does she want the baby, does the father want the baby, etc...)

                                                                                                                                                          she will miss some of the experiences of being a teenager / college student for sure but it doesn't have to be a big drama, depends on what kind of girl she is.

                                                                                                                                                                  But I do agree in gays being allowed to adopt.

                                                                                                                                                                  One thing they have here in Tucson, is like baby drop-off. So if you don't want your baby, you can go drop it off at any hospital, some of the women centers, etc and no questions asked, not even your name.
