Definitely not something I'd consider, because you just put the child at risk for so many things as a result. We were in the diaper store the other day and there was a women who looked to be close to 50 chasing around her 5 year old daughter...who had down's syndrome.
I think that most people having kids at that age aren't doing it with the child's best interests in mind. If they did, they wouldn't be having or even considering it...because of all the possible complications.Comment

My Wife and I have been trying for 4 years. We have gone through several rounds of IVF, and have talked to MANY doctors about this. In addition, my wife is a pediatric OT with her own practice.
In fact, getting pregnant with your first child after 40 is not only quite difficult, but also the chances of problems during pregnancy, downs syndrome, etc.... are MUCH MUCH higher after the age of 35. Just because medical science has advanced so much in the last 40 to 50 years has not changed biology.

Don't fool yourself. It's difficult, dangerous and risky to have a child at the age of forty. Biologically, forty is ancient for a human female to conceive. There is a lot of variation and some women have no issues and for others it's damn near impossible or they have horrible complications.Comment
