Would you be comfortable with a few dollars overpayment?

A sponsor has recently overpaid me twice. It's only a couple of dollars each time, but that does mean there's a discrepancy between what the stats say, and what the payouts say.

My affiliate manager says not to worry about it, but it is an accounting error, and it's not the first one they've made this year. Should I just ignore it and enjoy the extra few bucks?

Well I would have tried to give it back and it seems you have and they don't want it. So I don't know what to tell ya.

If the manager says don't worry about it... Well, don't worry about it, but it is good karma to shoot a email over to accounting and let them know about it

I don't feel uncomfortable being paid $2 more on a $1500 payout, I'm more concerned about why it's happening and what it may mean in the future. They've made some unusual adjustments on my account before and it took a few emails to figure out what/why they'd done it.

what explenation did they give you, if any?

Was it a handwritten check? epass payout?

It could just be a simple mistake. I highly doubt there is a shave filter out thare that would give you $2 more on a $1500 payout. If it were off by a multiple of the payout amount, I would be a little more concerned with what is showing in your stats.

The check amount matches what is shown in their payout stats. It's the commission that is wrong, sales * commission does not equal the payout amount. Up to 2 periods ago it was spot on (save for +/- one cent for rounding)

              This is the "explanation"

"Don't worry about it, this happens all the time. I get overpaid by a couple
of dollars all the time, it's because the accounting needs to make the
numbers "more round" not to cause too much errors."

Nup. Payout was $1703.46, it should have been $1699.79

This is pay per min webcams so odd amounts are normal.

I'd have a problem with that - I'm no angel, but it's essentially stealing. What would REALLY concern me is that their accounting software is so screwed up. Would make me wonder if their stat-tracking is in order.

I had a similar situation where I was accidentally paid for my work and someone elses' work. I wrote an email to the company about it because I felt bad knowing that the other person likely wasn't paid at all. But in your case, a couple of bucks, I probably would have figured it was my accounting error not theirs

I was once wired someone else's payment in addition to my own by a payment processor, to the tune of a few thousand dollars. I had just ceased using that processor (they had also paid out my reserves) so I could have walked away, but I chose to do the right thing and got the bank to reverse the second wire.

I don't think I'm going to bother worrying about this overpayment thing any more. I have emailed and received a response, so if the shit does hit the fan in the future I have his nonchalant reply to show them.

I got some checks like that & couldn't see it in stats til the sponsor told me it was webmaster referral income added to the regular payout.
Never ocurred to me to check webmaster referral stats before this.
