    he deletes all the content on the site, puts up a generic template and wants to sell just the domain, without any of the content that makes it valuable.

                                                                                              Yes it's stupid idea,i made a similar mistake long time ago but i managed to recover my investment and even make some money.But when you buy site it's best to leave it's content even if it's outdated.Also similar thing was done by wegcash i think by buying site like consumption junction,remove it's rich content and putting a stupid join form to some stupid site.
