I just moved from Sofla to Philly Shap. You're going to miss those blue skies but you realize there's more to life than weather and start appreciating the closeness a good home can provide.
Wish you the best of luck in family life and business.Comment

The blue sky, sun shinning part is the hardest. Doesn't need to be warm, but just having that there almost daily made you feel so good. Tough to be back north during the first winter where you are SHOCKED to see blue sky and the actual sun.XXXRewards - Karups - Boyfun - Jawked. Paying on time since 1997. Heh. Yay for canada
Welcome back, tho i'm not sure why you'd leave the islands for our winters!

Thanks Cyndalie for the sweet post

Absolutely. It's nice to live on an island but after a while it definitely can get to you.
Thanks Brujah
Thanks Mike. Obviously it's not the ideal moving situation but sometimes you have to make a sacrifice
Not yet. Going to move and get situated then maybe

Shap, you're an inspiration. If moving out of the Bahamas is what you're doing I am sure it is for the right reasons and you are going to make out better in the new spot than the old one.
I lived on an Island for 19 years and I can tell you, it starts to feel like a crab trap.

Thanks Crockett. We'll probably get ourselves a condo in South Florida so we have a getaway when the bad weather hits. Having the option to get away should help the transition.Nice job on the success you have had. I envy the list of free sites you have, but I think you will regret that move come Oct or Nov this year. Anyway good luck on your new ventures, if I was to ever work for anyone in this industry, your company would probably be on the top of the list.
As a side note.. whats the reason you're not expanding from the Bahamas?
Why not expand in the Bahamas? Here are a few reasons.
- It is very religious and having a full blown porn company office here would put us at a huge risk. Both immigration/legally and physically. The churches here would be on our ass so bad it wouldn't even be funny.
- To run a company a bahamian must be majority owner. So if i wanted to open up an office here i'd have to go out and give 51% of my company to a bahamian.
- 51%+ of the staff would have to be bahamian. If you've ever been here you'd understand why that is not even an option. Honestly, I'd couldn't do it. Bahamians have a terrible work ethic and would make the absolute worst employees.
- cost of living is insane so having Ex pats move here to work for us would be extreme costly.Comment

Great question. The main reason is we are not expecting to grow 35%Originally posted by Mystery ManOut of curiosity from a business perspective how is this a good expansion, I mean if you move back from The Bahamas being Canadians you have to pay taxes again and I believe its like 35% in Canada, somebody correct me if I'm wrong versus 0% on the Bahamas. So that would mean you would have to grow 35% this year alone just to make up for the move. Not saying that you wont just don't understand why you don't have 2 homes and spend a maximum of 179 days a year in Canada and the other half elsewhere and thus making your 0% legal.
Part of our decision was based on how much we wanted to grow and what our long term plans were. We are very fortunate to have built ourselves into a position where we had the option to either sit back and coast or roll up our sleeves and work even harder. One of our options, as i mentioned earlier, was to move to France and let things run as they've been running. Doing that would have probably resulted in us growing at a rate of 5 to 10% a year. We would be making great money but never growing much larger than what we are right now and never really increasing the value of our company.
The other option was to move back and do everything we can to reach our full potential. If it was a matter of growing 35% then obviously I wasn't interested in moving back. Our goal is to double, triple and eventually quadruple our current size. Meaning we'd be making more than we are now and be worth MUCH more than we are now
btw the bahamas has no tax treaty with the US or Canada. Therefore the number of days you can live without paying taxes is not 179 days. It's actually 90 or 120 (i think 90 for the US and 120 for canada).Comment
-
Absolutely.
Definitely is but we aren't letting it get us down. We had a fantastic 6 years here. It was a great move for us to come here. Now we are ready for the next move and we are really excited at the new opportunities and changes that lie ahead
Thanks Sosa
You are leaving TO? Where are you moving to?
LOL Just a little insane

Thanks a million ADG. No need to work for us to learn about us. Anytime you have any questions I'm always open to discussing how we do businessI grew up in Hawaii, so I can understand how you can finally decide to move back to a large urban area. You can always go back and visit the islands, and you will carry a piece of paradise within you forever.
If I lived in Toronto I would be tempted to try and find a position in your company just to learn about how it operates from the inside. I am sure those that take advantage of the opportunities you are offering will benefit greatly as they help grow your empire.
Best of luck to you and your family on the big move and on the future growth of your business.
Don't worry I won't be a stranger. We'll be sitting in the Hockey Locker Room together. You are going to be calling Cam telling him how you wish i'd stop calling you LOL.Congrats to Shapette and Shap, and welcome back to the neighbourhood!
The new house is absolutely incredible! Sarah and I are looking very forward to the house warming, I will bring the keg!!!
DH
P.S. Shap we just leased a new downtown office location at Richmond and Spadina so don't be a stranger when you get back to Toronto. We're literally down the street from you now
Alex please do
Rent. It will make the move much easier. Just have to sell our bigger items and worry about furnishing our new place in Toronto

Not for a few years. But eventually
Thanks Marc. Our new place isn't modern in style. I'd say it's more french-Mediterranean. You'll have to come visit for yourself.
Thanks Brad. We'll definitely be seeing more of you. (btw we still make money with that phone sex line you set up for us when we first moved to the Bahamas)
Thanks Brent.
btw sorry for the mass replies. Just trying to reply to the questions

Hey Brazzer. How's it going? Thanks for treating Mike this weekend. You guys run a top notch organization from top to bottom. There is way too much opportunity in our industry to just sit back and not try to really kick some major ass. Your company is a constant reminder of that. You guys really kick ass!Looking forward to meeting you when you get back , We were just having dinner yesterday with Mike and I was asking him about how hard it must be for you to run the company remotely. Your success in those circumstances is phenomenal, and Im sure it will be much greater working locally...best of luck !
With regards to running the company remotely. I think we are extremely lucky that we have grown to the size we are right now without Beth and I having been present in Toronto. It's thanks to Kevin, Mike, Jassie, Maz and are whole amazing team in Toronto. They've done an amazing job but there is so much more we can accomplish. Beth and I being remote has really held us back in many ways and I'm really looking forward to changing that.Comment

Ah man, you should have considered moving to the west coast of puerto rico...Plenty of Americans in the Rincon area, so you don't even have to learn spanish if you don't want to...I live on the east coast of PR but I would love to live in Rincon as I have spent many months there..The surfing waves in high season rival that of the North Shore of Hawaii and there are PLENTY of surfers and surfer babes out there...
People here don't get in your business at all...There's too many people here for you to even stick out like that...Nobody would even know what you did at all unless you told them..There is no Federal income tax, and anywhere outside of San Juan and Ponce is safe quiet living.
It's a hub so it's cheap to fly to and from here, as long as you are flying to the US/Canada..Inter-Island flights are insanely expensive...the cost of living is low and so is the crime...The public schools are decent and the private schools are good and cheap...The roads and infrastructure is excellent and you don't have to worry about crazy niggas driving on windy roads like you had to deal with in the Bahamas.
The weather is in the 80's year round and is located in the tradewinds, so it gets a nice steady breeze...Only bad part is the summer where it feels like a sauna down here and that's why I'm spending this coming summer back in Ohio..Comment

Forest Hill Village BIA eh? So am assuming you're starting a non-adult biz there too.. I was under the impression they didn't allow adult entertainment businesses in those BIAs prolly cos I never saw one in Forest Hill and I lived next to it in 2000.. neways, free wireless Internet services there is nice. A few nice food shoppies there too

Congrats Shap and best of luck with the move.
Very good post btw. I'm sure a lot of people would be off in the south of France living the high life right now rather than wait, whereas you and the Mrs are smart enough to put certain things on hold and instead put in the work needed to hit much higher rungs on the ladder of success.
I doubt too many others could resist that house in France you showed us.
And personally I like having some dull dreary days in the mix. When every day is sunny and perfect it makes you want to be outside enjoying it, boating, swimming, para-sailing.... lol... hard to get any work done. Cloudy rainy snowy days are made to order for getting a lot of work done at the 'puter. :D
