How come so many sites and programs are for sale now?

Ive been kind of away from the biz for a few months now but just checking in today and see a lot of sites for sale. Whats going on?
Is the business too top heavy with too many programs and not enough webmasters to promote them?

Well two of the programs seem to be from the same company.

          there's 4000 factors

          some including,

companies are merging, perhaps selling off poorly branded niches
the scamming lure, presides over new webmasters creating sites
(easier to scam and run, then to create and wait)
newcomers find it easier to create affiliate program site then to create free site network
laws of obsenity scaring away those using porn to fund other interests
people move on to new adventures or people die

I would venture to guess that a lack of active affiliates is the primary factor.

The last few years have seen an explosion in sponsor programs, but I'm not so sure that top 5-10% of affiliates that bring all the sales have increased in numbers too much.
