I obviously can't explain our whole method for determination, but I'll give the proof that will show it was a hitbot...

let me give some backstory first

my good friend Dawgy bought some 404 traffic from someone and was unsure of being able to convert it, so I told him, I'd take the traffic, make sure he made some profit on the deal and I could make a little profit myself...so, I just had him forward the traffic to me...I in turn was reselling it to some of my clients and added a link to AP and a few other programs (within the terms of the textlink program of course ;))

well, I was sending some traffic to fetishbucks and noticed a strange url in my referral stats...I askd dawgy if the guy he was buying from owned that domain, and he did...I also noticed the same exact referring url on each one of the 4 sites I had on my main landing page...

just one hit to each site, but from the same exact url, now this had passed through dawgy's meta refresh and our mainpage, through our affiliate link to fetishbucks...so insted of the page we were sending the traffic from (where all the other referrals came from (which raised the red flag on this one url), this one appeared...so I asked a private client we were sending to to check his referral logs for this lone url and wouldn't you know it...one single click from the same url....

I also had fucked up my onclick code for the exit console on that page and hadn't discovered it for a few hours...so the exit console should have loaded almost as many times as the main page...it didn't...in fact, it was "loaded" about 50%...here is a console that during that time should have been popping upon exit and clicking of a link, but wasn't....so I became suspicious (the fact there were zero signups was a small clue, but I figured, hey, got a really bad patch of traffic...) so the next day, I had dawgy change the url he was sending to....

well, saturday, no traffic from this guy (the agreedupon amount was 25K per day) so today, the traffic starts again and wouldn't you know it...the exit consoles (same consoles as the previous day) got roughly the same amount of exits and clicks on the exit console links...

plus, two hidden links...and what do you know? 40 clicks to the hidden links...and they had the same referring url as each other and the same IP address...

lensman, ctc is showing 208 clicks for our account and imagine most of them are from the hitbot...so may as well disallow them all (this was the only page I had your link on at the time)

seems hitbots can deepcrawl these days...but they still can't sign up to a program....they can even click on exit consoles...also funny this guy was adament about us not popping our second console as a blur but was fine with it as an exit...not that it mattered...he was selling to dawgy per click, dawgy was selling to us per click...we swapped it a bit and blurred the second console behind the first....

i might also add that upon viewing my server logs and stats, i see absolutely no referring urls from this guy's freehost. if i was buying 404 traffic from a freehost, and actually getting traffic from a freehost... seems like there'd be some referring urls... but i cant find em...

friday i showed about 20k raw to the page he was sending on my server, sunday was about 19k raw. this was a simple php page that just redirected the traffic to sykk's url.

no problem..I was going to post earlier, but I wanted to be 100% before tossing around such serious allegations (I'm not a tech person, so waited for my partner, who is the tech guy, to confirm)

well, I understand that, but shaving would seem to be this:
if you own a store, you have to price your products to include profit, cost of breakage/spoilage and a certain amount of theft...

while I'm not saying all sponsors shave (that's like saying all webmasters cheat) it makes it an argument for it....I'm not defending the practice of shaving...I think shaving and cheating hurt all of us long term....

this is sometimes why private deals are so tough....I offer a rate and the sellersays "but so and so if paying me x" well, yeah, but they are paying you X for a second page clickthrough or possibly "losing" clicks...for private deals I do a lot of first page counts....I'm a fair guy....I know a certain amount of clicks will be lost...browsers crash, odd things, server hiccups, etc.

it's a tough business...and eve tougher to play straight....

how do you explain this single url appearing in ALL of the referrals of our sponsors? and amazing the hidden url clicks have the same IP address and referring url

the song and dance you give webmasters who question your low conversions is "this traffic is meant for TGP's and free things, not pay sites" well of course, a TGP webmaster would have more problems catching your hitbot and would likely not notice this single url popping up in their referal stats muchless those of the galleries they've sent traffic to (of which your hitbot would have deep crawled and hit).


and amazing all your traffic to Dawgy shows NO referrals, yet these referrals mysteriously pop up in the referral stats of our sponsors...

Probably it SE Spider, Data Management Bot, Offline Browsing Tool, etc. The additional info is necessary for me. You can send more detailed info from your log files?

SE spider is impossible, the page was only a couple hours old with those hidden links added, they weren't there the first day...

my partner is offline, when he gets back I'll have him go further into detail.....

this was a single page with two exits set up specifically for dawgy's traffic (and only from your site)....nothing else was linking to it...I always set up completely different landing pages for each private deal I make, because each deal is different....
