They're not hotlinking, it's just a bunch of fucking freeloaders over there.

I'm having problems with them linking to my galleries as well

There are quite a few movie forums like that.. people get pissed if you make a post and don't link DIRECTLY to the .avi or .mpg file.. sigh

Is there anyway I can make it so that anyone trying to download my movies from PhatForums.com will be sent to my sponsor?

If they are going straight to a movie, no. Most movie programs don't pass the referal info on to the server, so everyone gets the same blank referrer. If they are linking to a html page, you can protect it with a .htaccess File. It sucks, don't it?

I guess you have to try and keep all movies in protected dirs.. the only movies outside of protected dirs should be very small files with an ad for your site in the movie. That way you might actually get a signup or two, who knows.

make hotlinkers pay for their shit. Run protection so that 2 out of every 3 hotlinks works. That means you charge 2 views for a visitor. Not bad. So most likely, when they set it up, they wil try the hotlink and it will work, but when they put it on their page, oops, they have been jacked!

You can email Phat Forums and ask him to blacklist your domain to prevent any hotlinking. He seems a nice enough guy.
