No, they didn't. They were running around freely with little to no consequences. If they got deported they would be back in a week. This new law was designed to allow local law enforcement to actually DETAIN them for breaking the law. Why is it you think all the illegals are packing up and leaving? Because it would be totally ineffective?
It's not the legal immigrants who give a shit. Why? Maybe because they speak English, they have drivers licenses and they likely would never be asked to prove their status in this country. It's the illegal CRIMINALS who would be most effected by this law that are fleeing. |
As soon as they set foot on Mexican soil, there is nothing to stop them from coming right back to AZ. The "law" is ineffective and has been deemed unconstitutional by a judge.
