I've had 3-4 Paypal accounts closed this week on stolen content sites (blogs in this case).
I've dealt with them numerous times.

Maybe you went about it the wrong way?

Any DMCA is a threat. While I agree that it usually is better to just send the DMCA, if you do see some other leverage to let them know that you are serious, it can count. Every other company I sent similar emails to responded by removing the content faster, than just with a DMCA.

I don't think anyone here is saying you're overreacting.

All I'm saying is a little finesse in your first contact to the guy may have gotten you a lot farther than openly threatening him about his paypal account. That's all. Now it looks like he's gone full retard on you. Someone should have told him never go full retard. :D

Personally if I were you I'd forget trying to reason with the idiot and just have a go at his upstream providers. I'd recommend not openly threatening them on the first shot either.

You need to DMCA his host, and his entire upstream, even the registrar, I promise they will make him take your shit down. Then go after his paypal account, get an attorney to mail out copies on his letterhead to his home and his ISP... you get the picture ;)

I've always thought taking out an ad in their local newspapers of your intentions to take action against them would be a good idea (esp. with a photo!).
In the olden days, we used to catch newsgroup posters and often able to find our who they were - a quick phone call to their home (and a chat with their Mom's while they were at school) usually done the trick.
