For digital a 12 - 24 mm f/4G DX ED-IF. If you are on a more resonable budget a AF-S DX 18-70 mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED will do too. Refrain from crap like Sigma and Tokina.Jenny Seemore

Which camera? (or at the least, lens mount)
Despite what Jenny S says, the Sigma 12-24mm can be a good lens... just make sure you buy it from somewhere where you can actually mount a couple to pick the best one. I believe it's currently the widest angle full frame 35mm lens.Comment

I refuse to buy anything from Sigma.
When I researched purchasing my Nikon D80, I tried it with a Nikkor, and then with a Sigma.
The Focus time alone made me buy it with a Nikkor.
It's really sad, I even got it into an infinite focus loop.
Reminds me when I bought my old Canon EOS, and bought it with Sigma Lenses.
I remember how I always used manual focus because I could not depend on the automatic focus to work.
It's always a good idea to 'try' your lenses before you buy them, to make sure they will work for you in your situation in a pinch.
It's horrible to loose out on a picture because your Camera and or brand new purchase fails on you.

lol, so you ignored everything in this thread anyway.
I checked and the Sigma EF 12-24 sells for the same price as the Canon EF-S 10-22mm at my local shop. You do realise that the EF-S mount can only be used on the 10D/20D/30D/300D/350D/400D bodies? If you ever upgrade to a full frame sensor such as the 5D then you will not be able to use the EF-S 10-22mm... but you can use the EF 12-24mm.
