that is bullshit and most people don't get it. If this is just " some b.s." board then why do people promote their business here? Why do people advertise here, paid, sigs, or just start threads about their services... Obviously a lot of people, in one form or another, do business here. This is the " conference room" of a traditional business. This is where a lot of people do their business.
So you have some people here who act like total jackasses on messageboards but relly on them for a good portion of the business.
So how am I suppose to judge someone, by the way they act when they are in the place where they do a lot of their business or the way they act when they are buying me drinks just bullshitting with me at a party.

Tell it.
OK, I realized everyone might not be as old as me, and thought I was asking A1R3K to actually "tell it" when it's just an old saying that means "you're 100% correct ;) I would never ask anyone to name names on a board - that's what person to person is for

here's a typical example of what's wrong with this biz.Jay,
Did you ask Peaches or Lee Noga to be on any of the panels? If not, why not?
They would be great. They are 100 times more savvy and intelligent than the men. Do you have any idea what large numbers of attendees you would get if you had these women on the same panels as 12clicks and Cory?
Since Cory keeps telling us how he hates seminars, kick his ass off and replace him with Peaches or Lee Noga or both.
Women make porn go round and round, not the men. Sharpie spoon fed you or you wouldn't be writing this article.
take this woman for example. Not a part of the business, makes negative posts 100% of the time, and thinks people going to seminars want to waste their time hearing from has beens.I'm not a dinosaur, I'm a crocodile. I've seen dinosaurs come and go and I'm left unimpressed.Comment

All panel decisions were the decisions of the Phoenix forum. You'd need to take it up with them regarding who they invited to speak.Jay,

Sure thing Cory...Thing is, my post comes off as arrogant but if you read it, I really am just giving what I see as an honest assessment of the situation. I harbor no ill will towards anyone?s style. I really believe in ?to each their own.? If I hadn?t been placed on this seminar, I never would have replied to this thread.
Jay, I do appreciate your saying I would be a good person for this seminar. However, technically, I work on the production side of Weg. I don?t really do the marketing. My marketing post are usually based on something I just pushed into the system on our adult side.
As far as people disagreeing with me, the only point of contention that stands out to me is the prefaced-brand name. It has all been respectful and professional. That is all good with me. I am honest on the boards; I will be honest in person. I sincerely want to help.
One thing I can comment on that I feel would be productive is our marketing history. I will shoot you straight on successes and failures Weg has been a part of (or more precisely, what I think works and doesn?t work). I would also be interested in the same from the other panelist (all of which are more qualified than I am for this).
Thanks for having me though. I think it will be a nice and productive gathering.
And For everyone... I just want to once again state for the record, I had NOTHING to do with the selection of panelists for this panel... CCBill / Phoenix Forum execs did that. Personally if I had any control over who got to be on this panel I would have selected differently.Comment

I think the selections were well done (outside of their missfire of having me on a panel).Sure thing Cory...

I would have to agree with LAJ only when it comes to certain people.
S.O.S. would be one of those people... It took me a loooooong time to figure out what it is exactly that you do for money. But as it turns out, you actually DO make a lot of money and you do a lot in the industry that most poeple don't know about.
S.O.S. came in, made a name for himself.. then made another name for himself... and another... and is where now?Comment

The only has-been I see in this thread is you...using the same old banners, same old programs...and same old rhetoric.
I wouldn't waste one minute of my time listening to you in a seminar setting. I guess the selectors of speakers were your trolls who voted for you.

It was great seeing you last night. Definitely good times.
Jay,
Just an fyi, I dropped out of this seminar. So if you had suggestions for better selections (as you mentioned earlier), I think you should contact CCBill. I am always available to answer questions in regards to Weg, our marketing and our product development; However for this panel, I don't see myself as a good fit. As I said before, I was under the assumption that this was a discussion involving viral products / consumers / money made with blogs and syndication / etc.
Good luck on everything and I hope it ends up serving everyone well. The Phoenix Forum is a leader among leaders, I look forward to seeing everyone.Comment

its pretty tactless and insulting to the panelists to publicly say that you dont agree that they should be on that panel, when you are moderating itSure thing Cory...

While it certainly made my decision to drop an easier one, I do see why the speakers were selected.
I think the Phoenix Forum does a good job selecting speakers and organizing a show that is as business driven as possible. What they do isn't easy and I am looking forward to it once again this year.Comment

who are the panelists anyhow? what is the panel really about? branding? personality marketing? this is actually the first time i've really paid attention to that term. i'll still go and check it out for sure. even if i'm hung over and reaking of jaegermeister and dirty girls. While it certainly made my decision to drop an easier one, I do see why the speakers were selected.

Why? I honestly think there are a few more prolific marketing people in this biz who I know love to be on panels that I think would be a better match for this particular seminar. I'm sure the same could be said about me and moderating it.
I feel the same way about a few speakers on other seminars as well. I've been organizing seminars for Cybernet Expo for going on 5 years... I have my way of doing things... Phoenix Forum has theirs. Neither is 100% correct. It is what it is.Comment

first of all, you have been asked to participate and your hurting the seminar by saying that it could have been set up better rather than helping it
i dont see what that statement gained you versus what it cost, just expected a little more professionality from a guy that helps organize competing shows
just struck me as a pretty pussy thing to say, when you got a little pushback, "oh i had nothing to do with it, i would have done it differently"
as for your experience with cybernet, since you brought it up, last years show was the worse run/planned show i had ever been to, all around, so your mention of that did not gain you much groundWebmasterchecks Affiliate Payments - fully compatible with nats/mpa3Comment

by the way, its not about putting people on panels that want to be on panels, im sure if you took a poll, youll find half or more of the attendees willing to sit on a panel to market themselves and their products to a thousand people, its about putting people on panels that are of value to the audienceWebmasterchecks Affiliate Payments - fully compatible with nats/mpa3Comment

I'd like to contribute by saying that there is another tier to personality based marketing over nick, antics, and style - one can build a reputation and name for themselves by becoming well known for their area of expertise and having the ability to communicate that knowledge, help others, and showing a path of being sucessful at it. By being resourceful, ones name can become well known. But this takes effort, time, and a level of professionalism beyond just board postings and 'looks' to become well known. The ones that are paying attention will always think of your name first when the topic of who is knowledable about that field and will always come to you when the time is right.Comment

I'm not feeling great about being on this panel now because of this either. Wtf Jay? Maybe you should remove yourself from this one since you are so unhappy with the setup? Why? Seminars are a waste of quality sleeping time.
If you need to go to a seminar to learn shit, or better yet, If you think your going to learn something at a seminar, then its probably time to find another line of work.Comment

I'm not that "sensitive", but I too thought this seminar was supposed to be about branding and viral marketing. I'm surprised that LAJ would publicly criticize CCBill's selection of panelists so adamantly. And I think it is discourteous to The Phoenix Forum to suggest that Cybernet does a better job, whether it does or not.

Wow Steve, that is a pretty fucking exaggerated account of what Jay posted. I agree completely with Tony, it seems like you're way too sensitive here. Here's an idea... call me radical, but if you didn't like what Jay posted, why not simply call him and ask him PRIVATELY to explain what he meant and possibly reconsider it, rather then calling for a public lynch mob on GFY?Comment

Well folks... I certainly meant no harm by my earlier statements, I'm not a vindictive person, but clearly feelings were hurt and unfortunately comments were misinterpreted. I essentially meant that every show is different which incidentally in my opinion is one of the strengths of the industry and why so many people attend all of the various shows and not just one.
I know how hard CCBill has been working on the Phoenix Forum and I know personally how hard it is to put a trade show together... so the last thing I want to do is be the cause of any bad feelings at the marketing seminar. My interests here are for the Phoenix Forum to be the best it possibly can be.
I feel at this point it's probably best for me to recuse myself as moderator of the marketing panel. Thanks to CCBill for providing me with the opportunity in the first place and I have no doubt they will find a great replacement moderator.
So hopefully we've cleared this up now, and everyone can just concentrate on having a good time in Phoenix. See you all at the show.Comment
