Pressing charges is not going to solve anything. Your best bet is to start recording ALL incoming phonecalls in the event he or any of his buddies call. As far as I know it IS fully legal to record incoming calls, just not outgoing. Save any and all correspondences this man sends you if thereare any and NEVER respond to a thing he says or does. Last thing you'll want is a mudslinging contest OR a way for him to turn the tables and say YOU are the aggressor.
DO make the police aware of a potentially dangerous situation. They will most likely tell you there is nothing they can do unless you want to press charges, but from my own experiences, that's a lie. Tell them you just want it on official record and that you are only trying to establish precedent for possible future legal actions, should the situation worsen.
