A Victory For The Gun Industry

(AP) Handing a defeat to the NAACP, a federal jury Wednesday cleared 45 gun manufacturers and distributors of allegations their marketing practices have stoked violence in black and Hispanic neighborhoods.

The jury deliberated for five days before reaching its verdict in a closely watched case that now goes to the judge for a final decision. The panel was unable to reach a verdict regarding 23 other defendants in the lawsuit, brought by the NAACP.

The lawsuit alleged the firearms industry knew corrupt dealers were supplying their products to criminals in minority communities and did nothing to stop it.

In an unusual but not unprecedented ruling, U.S. District Judge Jack Weinstein decided ahead of time that the jury would play only an advisory role, and that he would make the final decision in the case. Both sides will submit written arguments interpreting the jury's verdict within 30 days.

Have you ever thought about just coding a news ticker and putting it up on a website instead of posting everything you see on cnn.com on gfy?

Actually I have a website that has a full fleged news service in 22 separate categories from a variety of news providers...not a ticker...but thank you very much for your suggestion. It is from this that I peruse the news and post items that interest me.

Someone mentioned before that suing gun manufactures because a criminal injured someone with their product is on a level of suing a car manufacturer because a drunk driver injured someone with their product.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The House of Representatives will not extend a 1994 assault weapons ban set to expire next year despite President Bush's call for its renewal, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said.

"The votes in the House are not there to reauthorize it," said DeLay, a Texas Republican and staunch foe of gun control.

The influential National Rifle Association opposes extending the ban that applies to semi-automatic assault weapons like the Uzi and the AK-47 that have high ammunition capacity.

Another top NRA priority, a bill giving gun makers and gun sellers broad protection against lawsuits, recently passed the House and is pending in the Senate.
