    This Kills Me

So I'm looking at some traffic that came to one of our sites from a forum. A forum that has a long history in this "industry" and I see this in their terms:

    1. Please don't post full site rips. This will cause trouble for the board owner. You can still post them one by one though!

    2. Do not post links to any outside source except in your signature if approved by the admin.

    3. If you post a full DVD, its not acceptable to just post a screen shot of the original DVD cover. You need to post a meaningful "real preview" of the content.

So the forum encourages full site rips .. one by one of course , encourages the users to use torrents, encourages full DVD rips and then threatens to ban a person for linking to the site / company that actually produced the content.

I know this is "old news" but I don't often see this encouraged so blatantly and needed to vent.

LOL. whats the site. I love tube sites that do not add our network content when we post our "copyright text". Makes sense ;)

If they had been sticking to this rule you wouldn't have visitors coming from their site leading you back to the source of the uploads so it's an attempt to cover it up but obviously not a very well policed. If they really really didn't want outgoing links they could have disabled links in posts.

I'm assuming the traffic came from " except in your signature if approved by the admin "

But going through the site extensively I do not see any images, video , inline text or any other links out other than in the sigs.

this place is just like PornBB .. full of rapidshare, megaupload and image hosting links to full DVD's , full site rips ( in one scene chunks ) etc.

haha, at least they're honest about the fact they encourage sites rip offs!

I've been finding a ton of those forums lately. And the funny thing is that when I post a few samples of my OWN content, they say I'm spamming, but someone else can post my full members area and be 'contributing to the community'.

So is it an affiliate link in someone's sig then?

Still not entirely sure. The referring url was the root domain. I cant seem to find where exactly the traffic came from... not going to waste a day tracking it down. But based on these terms..and what I see going on there, I don't want them as a referrer.

                          Right?!?

Here are the terms from another one .. we had like 20 uniques the other day from these guys.. it's just ... < pulls hair out >

7a. Very small uploaded files and excessively large images posted on the site can be very annoying to other members. Do not post a complete site-rip in a single post. Try to limit your post to 5 videos (plus previews) or 5 picsets (plus previews) in one post.

7b. Do not link to other boards / blogs / money making sites
Do not post, exchange by private message or include in profiles, signatures, avatars, rar- or zip-files or in any other way exchange links to any other forum, blog site, yahoo, google, twitter, myspace, facebook and MSN groups or other newsgroups or any paysite.

7c. No streaming content, FHGs or TGPs
Do not post or exchange by private message any links to streaming videos or Thumbnail Gallery Posts (TGPs) or Free Hosted Galleries (FHGs). (If in any doubt about how these are defined please ask a moderator).

This is why I have such respect for places like Freeones. Thy have their board structured in a way that is valuable for their users as well as their industry.

Did you post your samples subtly with rapidshare links and a teasing .nfo file and shortcut link to your site or did you just post an advertising spiel with samples?

You seem to have a grasp on how to effectively "market" in these forums. Care to share?

Havn't done it for ages but it's pretty much in that quote. Be aware though that a lot of them just want something for nothing and/or are going to be 11½ and can't pay anyway - this is where sites like hotfile paying for /1000 downloads may bring you some money even if nobody seems to come and join your site. You need to decide if you are doing this directly for new members (maybe a long way off in the future) or whether you just want loads of exposure to build a brand up without really actually giving anything away that you don't want escaping.

Once you are looking at these forums you can also accidentally be reporting other peoples links of your stuff to rapidshare etc which will both kill off the uploads and the other posters reputation - especially if they post something in 3 parts and you keep reporting part 3 of all of their uploads

You need to behave like a normal member of their forum. Post the same way with screenshots and rapidshare/hotfile/etc links to an upload of samples not to something on your own server.

                                  Rar or zip file:
                                  • sample vid or picture set
                                  • .nfo file full of whatever text you would like someone to read - subtle teasing not obvious selling
                                  • readme file with same text
                                  • internet shortcut to a page you want them to go to with an enticing title. Loads more porn here is good paysite tour here is bad

It all needs to be done with nothing making you look like you are directly promoting the site or letting people think you are in any way connected to the site. Those types of forums have a very strict sharing based idea of things so if they think you are trying to profit off of them they will delete everything you post.

If you are going to bump your shit you need multiple accounts and make sure you swap ip too.

As well as posting on the forums you can put your forum post onto sites like katz.cd/submit and phazeddl.com/submit.php or gotphaze.com/submit which will get extra traffic to your forum posts. put the katz (or other site) button in your sig or at the end of your post. You can find forums to post on by looking through the existing stuff listed.
