Business post: How to spend $0 and create a Review Site in less than 45 minutes.

I know people don?t enjoy long post. However, I wanted to give this a shot and see if people enjoy it, or benefit from the thread. In the past when I have done this, it has been hit or miss.

What I did last night was, while watching Desperate Housewives, took an unused domain of mine and using Weg?s syndication feature, I created a new Review site. If you have a server and a domain name you aren?t using, this cost you 0.

I also want to show that syndicated content can be used for more than just ?blogging.? You can setup your own personal DVD review site. So, if you are a well versed blogger, this thread may serve as repetitious to you. If you would like, read it over and give it feedback. I have no ego in this, the goal is to help. I not only want to come up with ideas for webmasters in Weg, I also want to help you out with executing them.

If you don?t have a blog, you don?t need one for this. We are going to create a review site using blog driven content. Too many people think that you need to be a blogger to utilize syndicated content. That isn't true.

The tutorial is geared for the following:

1) Setup and installation of software
2) Syndicating content
3) Creating a logical flow
4) Helping the site stay unique with readily available content
5) Spending no money

What do you need?

A server. An unused domain. The Internet.



To start, I took an unused domain of mine (fukblog.com) and installed the latest version of Wordpress. I put in a support ticket at Jupiter Hosting to create a DB Name, User name, Password.

Next, I simply accessed the directory where Wordpress was installed. For this particular project, I chose the domain name fukblog.com. I took the files from within the wordpress folder on my harddrive and I dropped them directly on the root domain.

I then typed in the root domain and got this.




I clicked the config file, then I clicked lets go. Next, a page displayed asking me for the database authentication information. Fortunately, I host with Jupiterhosting, so by the time I got to this portion, my support ticket was answered with the supplied information.

So all I had to do at this point was copy / paste the support ticket information into this page:




At this point, I was given access to my wordpress admin and a basic wordpress theme was accessible to the general public on my root domain.


The next thing I did was install RSS Feed software on my server. As many of you know, AutoBloggerPro offers this a basic part of its functionality. However, for the sake of keeping this tutorial basic, simple and at the same time, effective, I chose a free one.

I chose feedwordpress.

I went here and downloaded the zip file.

I unzipped on my harddrive and then I went into my server and dropped it here:

Fuckblog/wp-content/plugins/

While you are at it, take the update-feeds.php file and put it on your server and remember the path.

I then logged into my wordpress admin, clicked on plugins on the top navigation bar, found the plugin titled feedwordpress and clicked the ACTIVATE tab.


Now the installs were over.

If you click on my dashboard link in my wordpress admin titled links, you will see a new SYNDICATED button. To help you visually, here is a screencap that should help you through the next few paragraphs.




Go into Wegcash.com. On the left side, click RSS Feeds.

Take the DVD Review code listed as RSS Feed and copy it. Paste it over the URI in the WEBSITE or NEWSFEED form box. That means, you place the code in there after deleting the ?uri.? Little hint, many programs tend to put feed:// in place of http:// ?. I am not sure the reasoning (I am sure there is one), but I do know that you must replace feed with http in order for the import to work effectively.

Once the code is in, click syndicate.

Your page should display the feeds most recent post, which includes the image in the latest post. If this looks correct (which it should), simply click syndicate again. As you can see on my sample screencap, the feed shows up under the syndicated sites section. This is where you can turn the feed off if you ever want to.


Now, remember that update-feeds.php file? Through your webbrowser, access that file. You will see a page that says UPDATE FEEDS. Just leave the selection at UPDATE ALL FEEDS and click UPDATE FEEDS.

Let the software work for a few minutes.

Now, go back to your site and check it out, you now have a series of reviews. This all in less than 30 minutes.

But, attention to detail is everything, so lets keep going. We need to optimize the site for keywords, appearance, and logic.

First, login to your wordpress admin and go to categories. Create a few new ones based on the Adult Porn Blog categories. Our blog doesn?t by default sit in categories. They by default go into one expansive category.

So, first thing I did was create a mother category titled PORN DVD REVIEWS. Next, I took a look at the DVD?s that were reviewed on my site and decided on some fun sub-categories and placed those underneath the mother category.

BTW, I want to do this work. I will explain why in a moment. Now, I started off with 10 reviews. So after creating my categories, I went to DASHBOARD / MANAGE / POST. I clicked EDIT on each of the 10.

On each one, I applied a new sub-category. I also removed the term THE WHACKMAN REVIEWS from each title. Now, in doing this, I have now set the page up to be more logical. I have also helped give it a unique feel by removing / changing those titles. While I was in there, I also did a Find / Replace. I replaced every instance of WHACKMAN with FUKBLOG. That should help to stray away from duplicate content issues while also giving the surfer a feeling that this is a real review site. I want the reviews to look as though I wrote them.

Of course, you can automate everything, just remember, some times personal touches go a long way with branding and SE ranking.


Next, I went into DASHBOARD / OPTIONS.

I changed the title to: FUKBLOG, The ultimate Porn DVD Review site!
I changed the tagline to: Porn DVD movies, find out which are good, and which are bad!
Clicked update options.

Next, I clicked DASHBOARD / PRESENTATION

I then clicked the WORDPRESS THEME DIRECTORY. I found a new theme. Downloaded it. By FTP, I placed it in my wp-content/themes/

I then went back to DASHBOARD / PRESENTATION and clicked on the theme.

Now, I checked the domain and the site was working, but I still wanted to customize further.

I went into DASHBOARD / LINKS / LINK CATEGORIES.

I found BLOGROLL, clicked edit and renamed to ?more adult sites.? I then clicked ADD LINK and was able to add links for ?link trades.?

Next, I FTP?d in.

/wp-content/sidebar.php

I pulled the sidebar.php file down to my desktop. I dragged and dropped it into Dreamweaver. I went into Weg, grabbed a small allaxxxess link and gif, and added it. I made sure to duplicate the file on my server in case of error.

But it worked.

Lastly, using Google, webmaster resources and contacts I have, I searched for a list of pings. In DASHBOARD / OPTIONS / WRITING, I added that list of pings.

Done.

Now, the site is a fully functioning, DVD review site in less than 45 minutes time. I spent no money. And still saw the end of Desperate Housewives.
