Not shocking at all. Clinton got rid of everyone wholesale without checking credentials. Bush got rid of people who were working against his republican friends.
The Clinton action was a normal course of business for a new incoming administration, the Bush action was a way to knock off people who wouldn't play republican ball only.

Tony, you need to spend a little time reading closely.
When a new administration comes in, many, many jobs see a complete and total turnover. If true, the Clinton adminstration did what many administrations have done before, unloading all of that staff and replacing them. THAT IS NORMAL.
What isn't normal is holding the current staff up to a litmus test during an ongoing administration and firing only those who have had the balls to go after republican crooks. Gonzales has been waffling all over because in the end, it's another dirty deal that lead back to the manipularo in chief, Karl Rove. If you haven't figure out from the Libby deal, it is that EVERYONE needs to shut up and eat the shit if it hits them, all to protect the whitehouse and Rove. Gonzales will likely end up resigning to protect those manipulative fuckers.
Gonzales is waffling because they have something to hide. Nobody else does.Comment

The US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President - he can hire and fire them at will, so no such action is a matter of scandal, no matter what the circumstances are. Democratic complaints about this are akin to the "Tenure of Office Act" Congress tried to tack on to the Presidency in the 1860's - an attempt, that is, for Congress to decide when and if an Administration official should be removed. Such a thing is entirely unconstituitonal, but such trivia just doesn't bother our Democrats these days.
None of the attorneys seem out of the ordinary...other than, as pointed out, a wonder why even more US Attorneys (including some Clinton holdovers) weren't removed a long time ago. Especially important to me is the fact that at least one US Attorney was canned for not vigorously attacking the problem of voter fraud - which gives us the real reason Democrats fear these turnovers: they are afraid that US Attorneys who prosecture voter fraud will eventually have most of the Democratic Party behind bars.
Now, as for Attorney General Gonzales - well, this event certainly wasn't handled with finesse, and it might be time to replace him just on that matter alone. Rupublicans are bashing the Dems that were talking about cutting off funding for Iraq and said it's the President not Congress that should be running military operations, yet in the 90's the republicans cut off all funding for military operation in Kosovo and Bosnia, and essentially forced Clinton to remove troops from there.
