Like many programs, AS used direct hooks to the networking protocols that are just no longer available in Vista (for security reasons, so that scumware and malware can't take over your PC and start sending out mails and connecting to the net randomly to dump your information). Any program that operates in this manner will very likely have to be re-written to match up to the methods that Vista requires for external connections.
