this reminds me of my university days. i was in an intense architecture program and we had a civil/structures class. The prof said the tests would be open book all the time, you didnt have to come to class but it would help. The tests would be long enough where most people wouldnt finish however we would get marked on a curve. So top percentile could end up with 125% out of 100.
How does this relate to the mentioned above. Our professor said just before the test that everyone could choose not to answer any questions and everyone would receive 100%. As everyone started to look around you know all it would take is 1 person or a couple to fuck it up for everyone else. And that's what happened to this industry - eat or be eaten attitude
