I'm an atheist that believes in getting Christmas (XXXmas) presents.
My Mom died when I was 26, and during her eulogy my sister looked at me and said that Mom wanted me to be a Christian, and if I didn't become one, I was going to hell (my Mother would never have said that) - religion makes people say/do kooky stuff...
You crazy Atheists, why do you feel the need to go against the word of the good book?
See you in hell, 'cept I won't be going to hell, because I'm not a sinner.
I never understood why they call it "the good book". From what I understand, there's a lot of death and famine and pestilence and suffering and damnation and general tom-foolery in it. Seems more like a not-so-good book.
Forgot how much americans love analytic philosophy... it's all right there in that sentence !
He doesn't believe in God.... he doesn't believe in the stories told him, very understandable really, thus he doesn't think we have a god and is an atheist because of that.
Personally I don't believe in the tooth fairy, Santa, the bunny rabbit, ghosts, spirits, angels, goblins and so on.. It's all fake, he has no reason to think anything told him is real or factual.
For me to believe in God, I have to create a reason for him to exist.. so I do.
But that doesn't mean he does exist or ever did. All we have is stories that aren't actually very old, no different than Santa stories. Just fairy tales really. The question is do you believe them or not, if so... you're not an atheist.
To be clear here, an athiest is someone that believes there is no god.
An agnostic is someone that isn't sure what to believe. Kind of like a metro-sexual.
