I lived in Ecuador for 6 months...visited friends in Caracas, Venezuela...I thought Ecuador was bad coming from NY/Miami....Venezuela is a NIGHTMARE. This guy is starving his own people and so much worse....

Nothing wrong with Castro They just tell you that in US text books because you tried to take over Cuba and failed. Then when the ties were cut off that's when poverty problems started happening down there, so you can't blame those on Castro either.

Chavez is the same as Bush, only that he is a "socialist"according to him.

Most people can´t or won´t try to escape to the U.S because the family they leave behind faces reprisals from the government.
You would be amazed at the number of cuban doctors that have been sent here to Venezuela from Cuba that have escaped.The ones they catch are sent back to Cuba and jailed.

The price of oil combined with the dissasembly of Venezuela's private industries has given him the money to do a lot of things. Suprisingly, even Chavez is running a deficit. If the price of oil continues to climb, he will probably be alright. Theres a good chance he could be a life-long dictator like Fidel and annoy the shit out of the US for the next 4 decades. If the price of oil sinks, I'd get the fuck out of Venezuela fast.

I dont think the oil price is going down any time soon,but Chavez´s incredible spending spree around the world to buy support (argentina for example) is going to give him problems soon.
Inflation here is rising and right now there are many basic products like meat,beans and sugar that are hard to find because he is driving the producers out of business.
I think that the same people that voted for him are going to topple him, but it might take a while yet.
