It's not as hard as some people think. Just like the (first) American revolutionary war, it is possible to "win" without utterly destroying the enemy. One of the first steps in fighting the war is to stop aiding the enemy. Seems pointless to fight the enemy if you will also assist him too. Think about that, next time you pay federal taxes.

Oh and by the way, usa is slightly "losing" in Afghanistan. And those resistance fighters dont have tanks,boats,or airplanes.
