I really though Lesnar was finished in that first round. I was surprised the ref didn't stop the fight.
My feeling watching the fight was that Lesnar had some mental issues. First off, he almost died last year. Then as I understand it...his kidneys were so damaged from that, that he can no longer eat meat the way he used to for protein.
From what I had read he had to change his entire diet and protein intake away from eating meat AND he had to regain his weight and strength at the same time.
That's a pretty tall order. And I think when he walked in the cage he had some self-doubt. And I think he tried to overcome that self doubt by trying to go toe to toe punching with Carwin to overcompensate.
And that's when he took an ass whipping.
Seeing it happen in person was brutal. Lesnar's face was messed up bad and there was blood everywhere. I honestly thought the ref was going to stop it at any second.
I kept thinking to myself...why the hell isn't Lesnar wrestling? I mean, that's what he's really good at.
And in the second round that's what he finally did. He shot in, took a tired Carwin down and that was all she wrote.
It was a tremendous fight. And Carwin was really blown up in that second round. Hell, he's never been past the first round before. And I don't think he's ever even been taken down before.
So when Lesnar did that...it was all over.

So on point.
But what you probably did not see because you were there live was that Brock did a pretty good job of defending himself while he was taking an ass Whipping. For the ref to stop it, a fighter needs to be clearly be out of it or if he gets hit 9 times in a row to the head and makes no attempt at defending himself during those 9 shots in a row, the ref will break it up. Brock got clocked 4 times in a row, blocked 3, got clocked 5, blocked 5 and so on. Very close, but he was not seriously hurt bad enough to not defend himself.
The ref was so on point tonight. He could have fucked up the whole thing by stopping it. The ref deserves kudos for doing his job right.
