Tate & Lyle has announced a deal to sell its sugar business to American Sugar Refining for £211m in cash.
Although Tate and Lyle were making a profit it was down from prevoius months
"The group reported pre-tax profits of £229m for the year to March, down from the £247m it made a year earlier"
The companys net debt stood at £814m
So there you go the US is about to own a very old name in the sugar industries
