For those of you with phones with STANDARD size screens.....how much do you use the web-browser? Do you pay extra for a higher-speed data plan? What I'm really getting at is - how compelling is using a browser with a tiny screen?

Doesn't a Treo have a larger than normal screen?? I'm interested in the understanding the usage of standard screens.Arguing whether the Democratic or Republican party is better is like debating which steaming pile of shit is slightly less stinky.Comment

Imo, there aren't "standard" screens these days. There are so many different hardware choices and many of the regular cellphones have pretty big screens. Being a pda+cellphone, the treo does have a bigger screen than most regular cellphones, but not by much.
What kind of services would be used?... email, icq, driving directions, showtimes, posting on gfy, etc.Comment

Regarding "standard" screens - when i walk down the street or go into a coffee shop or whatever, 95% of the mobile device users i see are using what I call a standard screen. 2" x 2" at best. And what I'm wondering is if the web experience at such a screen size is such a turn-off that it makes people resistant to fire up their browser and go to your site no matter how friendly you make YOUR site. In other words, overcoming the resistance built up from the crappy small screen experience to even bother trying your site, no matter how small-screen friendly it is.Imo, there aren't "standard" screens these days. CLARIFICATION: when I say 95% of mobile devices, I am NOT talking about laptops...only phones/smartphones/pocket pc devices..and mostly just standard phones at this timeLast edited by DTK; 03-11-2007, 10:57 PM.Arguing whether the Democratic or Republican party is better is like debating which steaming pile of shit is slightly less stinky.Comment

Web surfing on a cellphone, smartphone, pda, etc,... sucks. It's hard to to read news sites, pics are too small, side scrolling is a pain, and it's not very quick as most sites are quite big.
Again, it is nice to use it for various things though... googlemaps, showtimes, directions, email, etc.Comment

I have a Treo that I use from time to time as a modem for my laptop, when there's no available connection. The Sprint EVDO network is pretty quick too. Not quite Cable/DSL fast, but quite a bit faster than the old telephone modem.
I've also got a PPC6700 that's pretty decent for web browsing, as it has a full QWERTY slide out keyboard and the screen is a little bigger.Comment

I want to thank everyone for their replies so far, and expand on this a little. I know texting is huge, but what about mobile email?? How many of you actively use the email capability of your phone?Arguing whether the Democratic or Republican party is better is like debating which steaming pile of shit is slightly less stinky.Comment

i have a cingular 8125 and got the unlimited use plan with it. I love it. So many times i'm some place and this shit comes in handy. Either bored having to wait for something... or maybe some place and need internet to check on shit...list goes on and on. Plus love having a qwerty keyboard on my phone. So much more i know i can get my phone to do too that I haven't tapped into yet.=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
