Roth IRA - tax-free growth and tax-free withdrawals; contribute to a Roth IRA from your after-tax income.

    It's a retirement account...

Dunno how you like online banking but HSBC has 6% APY through April 30th, then 5.05% afterwards. Most of my spare change just sits in my PayPal account for the money market.

If you don't plan on touching the money for a while, you can get guaranteed interest rates over long term(5-10y). With that, since your money is guaranteed , you can get a credit line with the same amount of money and if you have good credit, your interest rate on your credit line would be lower than the guaranteed interest rate(example 7.5% vs 10%) so even if you use some of the money in the credit line, you won't loose any... unless the general interest rate change and if you calculate inflation.

That's one of the only solutions i know for "guaranteed high return" besides private lending.

Just talk to a professional, they will be able to help you out.

A girl once told me "Give me 8 inches and make it HURT".

So, I fucked her twice and hit her with a brick.

There is no such thing as a guaranteed "high return." You can get a guaranteed "mediocre" return by putting that money into a fixed income security such as a bond, CD, or a money market account. Interest rates will fluctuate 4 - 6%, depending on the security.

Go with a high interest rate account like HSBC, they're popping up everywhere in Canada now. You know what, if you've been with one of Canada's major banks, tell them you're gonna move to HSBC and you'd be surprised how quick they bump up their interest rates to beat everyone else. RBC was able to keep my business at the last second ;)

Personallyh for me, high interest MM accounts (HSBC, Emigrantdirect) for liquid savings, real estate for long term. I've stayed out of the stock market because I freaked out and sold early when it started going down. Now I'm afraid

At the bank or with private lending. It usually depends on the term(closed).

Invest in 4-6 different mutual funds. But avoid using the services of a broker, they make you more broke according to http://money.cnn.com/magazines/money...8657/index.htm

IRA, if your income doesn't exceed the level that will allow you to do this. Next choice is low cost index funds, preferably from Vanguard. You can research the subject for weeks, like I did, and everything I learned is right there in that sentence.

The smart money goes in index funds.

As long as you can rent it out and get at least close to your mortgage payment amount. Otherwise property taxes, repairs and mortgage costs eat you alive.

That's not a guaranteed return, and you run the risk of losing some or all of your principle.

Depends on what you buy. I've been quite happy with my vacant lot purchases and resells $5K could get you at least one good lot at a property auction up here. I love land - they're not making any more.

Depends on how much you have to invest - if you have a good sum either join up with an existing capital funding project (invests in startups at nice interest returns) or form your own partnership to make loans to people - after taxes and overhead the returns are way above any standard fund/stock investments

I own a lot of pimco funds. I wouldn't in any way call that "guaranteed" though. If you had rising interest rates for a long period you would lose more principal than you received in interest. In fact, my PRRDX is only up 2% the past year. PHK has done well but there are definitely some risks there too (rates and higher risk bonds)

I've been disappointed in ING that they haven't kept up with the other online banks. I keep $1K there to keep the account open - nothing more.
