I did my four years in the Marine Corps. Now I'm a disabled veteran and not eligible for active service.
BUT...that said, if there was a mainland invasion of the US, I'd strap the gear on, load up and go hunting. My expatriate disappointment in the current political clime and corporate regime only goes so far.Comment

my brother tried to join the marines and he went to the interviews and all and they asked him why. he said he wanted to kill motherfuckers and they sent him home. not because of killing enemies. they thought he was a nutcase and could potentially shoot his officers or NCOs in the platoon. when i served they also discharged a few guys along the way because they liked killing too much.

some of us are smart enough to determine out own fates and the consequences, no need to follow blindly, there is a big distinction between this war and a direct and imminent threat to the US, we understand some of the self-serving agendas behind this war
70%+ of the US doesnt think we should be in iraq, the administrations arguments are very week at this point

totally agree, just saying he could have punked out if he really wanted to....
The raw truth is the idea of a "coalition" is, and has always been a facade, to create an illusion to the American people that we have allies helping us in Iraq, when in fact no other country besides Britain ever had more than 3,300 troops (that would be South Korea, which likes to keep its troops battle ready - they are now down to 2,300 troops, with plans to withdraw 1,100 additional troops in the near future).
Prince Harry in Iraq represents a greater threat to his fellow troops by being a high value target, instead of being any kind of a difference maker in the war and the future of Iraq. If nothing else, I hope that he gets dusted up a little, and comes away with some practical knowledge about the stupidity of the leadership in the US and UK that have brought our countries to this point.

I've always been under the impression that when there's a draft, and you fall into the right age bracket, you go. Period.
As baddog said above, the military would find something for you to do, objector or not... but you'd go.
Or you could try to run away, as you said, and be a draft dodger. It's come to my understanding that that's not the best label to have to live with for the rest of one's life, but hey, at least you'd be alive right?

Being forced by the government to go and fight an economic war where there is no direct threat to the US? You call that freedom?
There is no human being more worthless or pathetic that he or she that would allow themselves to be used as a pawn by a government in any war that does not directly threaten their own homeland.
The only honorable war is a war of defence. If you're not fighting a war of defence then you are simply a paid mercenary.Last edited by Porn Farmer; 03-08-2007, 01:40 AM.Comment

As i said above i highly doubt the US goverments would force citizens into battle at gun point. They cant and wont force anyone to go to war.I've always been under the impression that when there's a draft, and you fall into the right age bracket, you go. Period.

Do you dispute the goverment lied to the US people about WMD in iraq? Knowing that fact if a drat was put into place you would still go and fight?
If i was drafted to a war that was not on US soil or did not directly threaten The USA ..then there is no way i would go.Brand me whatever name you like, draft dodger,coward,objector..whatever...point is america was founded on standing up for what you belive in and freedom.I see it as my duty to my country to maintain these values...If not am i a realy free?Am i really what an American is suppose to be? ..me thinks notComment

Bah! The British forces have been a token force in Iraq since the war started nearly four years ago (3/20/03). Their current massive 7,100 member force has mostly been protecting their own barracks (plans have already been announced to cut their troops to 5,500 in the near future as a prelude to their ultimate withdrawal).
True, the British have lost something like 134 soliders so far in Iraq, the vast majority being enlisted personnel. On average, more police officers die in the U.S. each year than that.
The U.S. population is approximately five times greater that the U.K., yet we have twenty times as many troops in combat and have suffered fatalities at approximately 30 times the number which British troops have.
In fairness to the UK, they represent more than 50% of the non-US coalition.

Utter Bollocks.
British armed forces have been in the thick of the action in Iraq since day 1 often taking on highly dangerous small scale missions where they would be expected to go "toe to toe" with the enemy rather than resorting to calling in fire power "en masse" to get the job done and are mainly currently engaged in protecting US supply lines in the south of Iraq. LOL, a second level of danger seems to have come from dodging US bullets when your boys get to excited.
Sorry to say so, but to me that is simply a sad inditement of the US in general.True, the British have lost something like 134 soliders so far in Iraq, the vast majority being enlisted personnel. On average, more police officers die in the U.S. each year than that.Laughing Out LoudComment
