I have an HD DVD player that upconverts regular DVD's to make use of the better resolution, and that function only works with HDMI cables.
For viewing HD DVD's, component cables look the same/better to me.
HDMI is all digital, so it either works or doesnt work. So go with a $20 cable IMHO.43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

I wouldnt spend $300 on an HDMI cable..
IMHO, HDMI does not make a better looking picture. I know one person who's professional installation service even recommends component over HDMI.
HDMI is required for upconverting though because of copy protect stuff, thats the only thing I use it for, and the $20 cable works perfect for that. If you have a need for it, then that settles it I guess.43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.
