I have an HD DVD player that upconverts regular DVD's to make use of the better resolution, and that function only works with HDMI cables.

For viewing HD DVD's, component cables look the same/better to me.

HDMI is all digital, so it either works or doesnt work. So go with a $20 cable IMHO.

I wouldnt spend $300 on an HDMI cable..

IMHO, HDMI does not make a better looking picture. I know one person who's professional installation service even recommends component over HDMI.

HDMI is required for upconverting though because of copy protect stuff, thats the only thing I use it for, and the $20 cable works perfect for that. If you have a need for it, then that settles it I guess.

I have found monster cables to be the worst of them all I would pay 60 bucks for a common cable over 10 bucks for the same monster cable

Monster cable quality is complete bullshit
