Yes, that's why Avatar is a game changer. It changed how the movie studios produce and market their films. Alice wasnt shot in 3D, 3D was added in post production. They didn't push the 3-D angle with Avatar, but every movie since they have. Every movie commercial you see now is "in 3-D!" and I have yet to hear one person tell me that Alice in Wonderland was much better in 3-D.
I haven't seen Avatar yet, in 3-D or not, so I can't fully judge...
Again, Avatar wasnt simply a sword being thrown into the audience. The technology immersed you in Pandora. It was an incredible movie going experience. Of course it isnt going to be as good on your home system, no matter how advanced it is.Comment

Youd think for 500 mill, Cameron would have actually had something original wrote up...Comment

Exactly. The "ultimate in gimmicks".You complain about gimmickry yet then say that The Hurt Locker would be great in 3D? Why? so the bomb parts would fly out at the audience? That would be the ultimate in gimmicks. You clearly didnt see Avatar in the theater in 3D and do not realize how the 3d was implemented thus making your opinion on the subject meaningless.SIG TOO BIGComment

Point was that he is all style and no substance. And while SOME of the movies you listed I did find entertaining, but NONE of them had substance.--

Avatar in 3D was out of this world amazing. The story was average at best, but the visuals of Pandora in 3D is what was incredible. It showed the technology that is possible, and hopefully going forward people use that technology and put them together with an actual great story.
The 3D you saw in movies like Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, How to tame your dragon etc can hardly be called 3D in the terms of what Avatar was. Like VHS to BluRay in the quality of the product.
That said, I'll never watch Avatar on DVD/Bluray. The story was too weak to warrent it. Avatar was truly a theater experience to be seen in 3D IMO.XXXRewards - Karups - Boyfun - Jawked. Paying on time since 1997. Contact me at brent [at] xxxrewards.comComment

I intended to watch it but after your review...im going to give it a miss.....trailer looked good but then again i guess all trailers do !.I don't see what all the hype was over.
It was okay. I thought the premise was interesting... a nice reversal of the typical aliens-come-to-Earth-impersonating-us-and-harvesting-our-resources movies. But a lot of the acting was weak, and some things were just downright stupid. "Unobtanium"? That's the best they could think up?
All in all, just another CG movie that was about 1.5 hours too long. The hysteria over this movie makes no sense to me.Comment

Like nothing against that, it's the most advanced animated movie in the history, but that's about it.
Now you see everyone checking the 3D movies and bullshit so they can go "wow" watching something that is actually a half assed remake of something that sold before.
While there still are hundreds or maybe thousands of movies that were made during the past 100 years that just blow you off if you watch them, and the only thing needed there is a couple good actors, smart script writing with interesting characters, and a whole lot of intensity and authencity.
Remember there was a time when none of this CGI bullshit or special effects were available, when movies were more like theater, that's where you couldn't hide behind creepy eyeball assaulting effects if you actually sucked in ideas.Last edited by CarlosTheGaucho; 06-12-2010, 11:25 PM.Need hosting, cloud, CDN or solutions for your AI? It was hype from the beginning. Luckily despite everyone else falling for the hype, I did not watch it. I had hoped that this thread would convince me I was wrong, but it only reinforced what I knew all along: Average movie, typical hollywood hype, not worth the rental, thanks for trying to dupe us ;)Comment
