btw, macs offer a great package in terms of compatibility and usability. i have a mac pro dual 2.66GHz xeon w/ 8GB memory and its really nice to have that much ram to play w/... and the top end memory limit is 16GBs. show me a windows xp machine that can handle that kind of memory, there isn't one... the only Windows OS that can handle more than 2GB (3GB w/ the /3GB switch) is the server flavor, and it doesn't handle large pages very well.....promise her a defamation, tell her where the rain will fall..Comment

Although I am a steadfast Mac fan, I also have a windows machine (Athlon 1.1 ghz ,5 years old) that still runs winXP just fine. But I will correct you on one thing. Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition can handle up to 8gigs of ram. However, it will have even LESS driver support than Vista already has. i love the tv add where the pc guy is this older lonely geek and the mac guy is a hip 20 something. the most recent one the pc is going in for peripherial upgrade and the mac (gay?) guy is checking out his ass...pretending not to like the view..
anyways, i have pc's and a imac 1.2 ghz notebook. the mac is solid, runs fine, never any real problems, but i do lots of pictures, think batch convert 150 photos each 30 mb raw files. and the mac is slow.. my pc (one of the first version amd 64 chips) does much faster even though they are both same speed and same amount of ram."Obscenity is whatever gives the Judge an erection." -- Author UnknownComment

Pfffffft, there IS NO CONTEST.
You cannot use a Windows laptop as a carpenter's/builder's level ergo the Mac wins hands down.
On a side note, the technlogoy driving this saved my bacon today when I dropped my laptop, producing a nice dent where the HD is. The laptop woke from sleep, took about 30 seconds to deactivate the sudden motion sensor, then everything went back to normal.

lol, you must not do much other than play games and surf porn forums on your computer then, as having that much ram is quite the boon for many tasks... video editing, 3d animation/compositing just to name a couple. i think the weak point is more your box which sounds like its limited to 2GBs (and probably only has 256MB anyways)... i'm out though, you really aren't worth debating w/ troll-boy..

What are you using to batch the pictures on the mac? The reason I ask is if your using Photoshop, then your not using the power of the mac yet. Photoshop is still running in "rosseta" mode. CS3 is optimized for the Intel mac, and the beta release is already faster. If you own CS2 you can download the CS3 Beta from Adobe using your serial number/user info.
Why would someone need 16gig of ram? Are you kidding me? I guess you haven't noticed so I'll point this out to you very slowly v...i...d...i...o. Some would say it's one of the foundations of the industry that we are in. Yes on a mac your currently going to be using Final Cut. But, adobe has announced they are back in the mac game and will be releasing the new version of premier for the mac.

Thats just one older example. Put do what I did and actually look at the specs of a Macbook Pro 17 then find me a matched windows laptop cheaper. Oh and that Matched laptop should have Firewire 800 AND usb2, 8x double-layer burner, able to take 3 gigs of ram and for video, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM.
What it comes down to is use. If your wanting a computer to wack off on porn all day, read GFY and bitch then take a break to play computer games, yes a Windows based machine will work for you. When you start moving into the Professional video/audio then your windows options become limited due to the memory issue. What you use has no effect on me, I really could careless. If you have windoz stuck so far up your ass that you can't think strait that's your problem not mine.

my mac notebook is not one with the intel chips, guess it is the older version, apprx 2 years old (still newer than my pc), can i still take advantage of the faster CS3 ? does it make any difference? over the years the speed argument has always gone back and forth where mac people claim to be equally fast.. and always in retrospect the pc's have been faster (and according to mac peeps, the next brand new OS will now outdo the pc). No, your old Mac is totally obsolete. There really is not compairision as the Macbook pro LAPTOP actually blows the fastest G5 workstation out of the water. The new CS3 is aimed directly at the Intel Chipset mac's.
I was never impressed with mac performance in the past, it's only recently with the introduction of the intell chips where this has changed. There is even talk now of using the upcoming QUAD core chip inside the Macbook pro.Http://www.extremehole.com

There is no comparison between the Intel based Mac and a Windows machine. Opps. a Mac can run Windows both native mode or under parallels emulation. So a Mac is a GUI BSD Unix machine that actually works out of the box with an excellent Unix based OS and also can run Windows if necessary.

3 months ago I had the choice between a suped up PC laptop or a Macbook Pro.
I went with the Macbook Pro and haven't looked back. My next desktop will be a Mac Pro.
I have Vista running with Parallels but only use it when I need to do Internet Explorer testing.
Why is a mac better?
The laptop feels complete...not like it was made in a factory and stuffed with a million different parts that may or may not work with each other once something gets deleted or goes wrong.
Why do people pay more for Infniti's then they do for Nissan's (same company)?
Same reason I paid the premium for my Macbook.★★★
