Dude, tell me about it! I've got a freon leak.
Its in one of the coils, the thing keeps icing everything over. I'm not totally cut off, it's running but just barely.
Coil alone would be $2k to replace, I've had so many probs with this A/C ever since I bought the house I'm biting the bullet and getting a new unit installed tomorrow.

it is only 82 in my house right now... first floor.
I think I just need a charge but last time i called people out they said my compressor was shot and I needed 3k worth of equipment. That was when nothing turned on... low and behold I got a new thermostat and bam... it worked.

Make sure you pick a good A/C repair company.
A guy came out and said I needed a new unit for $2.5k. I got a second opinion and he just added freon and the problem was fixed. That was 3 years ago. Fucking thieves.Comment

I haven't turned my A/C off in three years and it hasn't gone much about 72 except about a year back when I had the flu and it went up to about 75 because I was freezing.
If it went out I would probably just move. Cheaper that way, especially the way they gouge you in AZ.
My complex had a bunch of the "$50 a/c checks!" fliers out by the pool a month or so ago. Sure there will be a ton of idiots who not only pay the $50 but thousands more on top of that because nothing was wrong with it to begin with.

So called 3 places and first two required that a full service inspection be performed, $200 for a dye with the freon charge, basically around $350 plus the cost of freon to just put the freon in. Also next week was the earliest
Third place can come out today and I told him how I was given the run around last year and what I need is freon! I'll see in a couple hours.
I remember my cousin charging my old pathfinder and I paid like $10 for the freon. Charging my compressor just couldn't cost that much...Comment
