    wtf? Which USB port is this?

    How can I tell if my USB ports are the normal ones or the 2.0 ports?

      If you can't push more than 58mbsp they're normal ones,

      if you can get up to 100 mbps they're 2.0


      something like that... maybe 54 & 101? I forget the actual speeds

          You can identify whether your PC has Hi-Speed USB:
          Open Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus section. There should be an "Enhanced" USB host controller present if its 2.0

              USB 1 is really, really slow. It's around 1.5Mbps. USB 1.1 was the 'high speed' USB a while back at 12Mbps. USB 2 can go up to 480Mbps, a vast improvement.

                  Mine says this:

                  Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
                  Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
                  Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
                  USB Root Hub
                  USB Root Hub
                  USB Root Hub

                  Any clue if that means they are all 2.0, or just one... or none?

                          If all the ports are in the same place I think they all are 2.0

                          If you have 2 on the front say, but there is also a PCI card plugged into the mobo with ports coming out the back then I guess it could me mixed, though I think thats unlikely. Even in that case, some PCI cards have internal connections for those front ports too.

                          My laptop has 3 USB ports and I only have 1 'enhanced' line as well in my hardware list, but I am certain all 3 are 2.0

                              I just got around to hooking up the external hard drive that AFF sent me for christmas, and this new cool thing I got tonight. Its a XBOX360 wireless receiver, so that you can use all the cool 360 wireless stuff on the PC now. Wireless game pads, wireless racing wheel, wireless headset, all the cool shit.

                              Only thing is, everything had to be USB 2.0 compliant and I wasnt sure if mine was or not. But it all seems to be working ok so I guess it is.

                                          if your usb port isnt getting high speeds its more likely a driver issue unless your computer is super old

                                              Hehe, those are closer to WirelessG than USB... USB2.0 can reach close to 500mbps.
