My mother moved to the states because of how dangerous Nicaragua had become thanks to the US involvement with the Contras. We were wetbacks here for years (16 years to be exact) before we were granted amnesty... basically an apology for fucking up my home country.

The US gives huge subsidies to US farmers, who then sell their food so cheaply south of the border that local farmers are unable to compete, because they do not receive subsidies from their government. So, they lose their farms. What should they do? Lose their farms and work for $2 an hour in their home country, or come here illegally and make much more than that?

I'm not calling America evil. I'm saying that it has major involvement in all this. In the words of Jeremiah Wright, America's "chickens coming home to roost".
