interesting story behind that, u.s. probably wouldn't have been involved in ww1 if the italians didn't blockade the new york harbor years before.
at that time in new orleans a group of italians were lynched, hung from the police courtyard by an angry irish mob because they were accused of killing the irish chief of police at the time. they were about to be let go because of lack of evidence when the mob stormed in and killed them.
italy's immediate response was to send their warships to the new york harbor to block it and threaten new york with destruction if they fucked with any more italians.
it was shortly after that the u.s. created "the great white fleet" to have a presence on the seas, because before that time they didn't have squat.
