You might have answered your own question here. If you really have a crazy life filled with all kinds of wild things going on, you are probably someone with drama in their life. I would never have a very good friend that has constant drama in their life. It sounds more like these people are casual friends, not real friends, but if your life continues to be crazy, you will probably find it hard to make real friends.
I have a bunch of casual friends, people I hang out with from time to time and do things with and like, but I wouldn't count on them in an emergency.
On the other hand I have a few "real" friends. These are guys I have known since I was a little kid. We are all very close. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that they would be there for me no matter what. These are guys I would step in front of a bullet for and I know they would do the same.
