Do I wait For The PS3 ??

The PS3 will FINALLY be released here next month.

Prices of X-Box 360's have now started to drop a little because of this, so i can't decide whether to go for the 360 now, or just wait and test out some games on the PS3 when it's out, and make my mind up then.

For anyone here who has both, or has at least played both, what's your verdict on which one looks more promising out of the two ??

I'll go with ps3 for one simple reason, the TV I ordered doesn't support 1080p resolution on anything but HDMI..and xbox doesn't have it as far as I know. lol.

besides I've always been a playstation kinda guy, and didn't like the original xbox.

Yeah kinda

Nah, as crazy as it sounds, one big factor for me is that i'm so used to the Playstation joypads, and i know from anytime i've played the x-box, i normally get pissed off with theirs.

The PS3 is also gonna cost £425 here for the console alone. Can't wait to see the parents faces when their kids demand as they do, they 'must have console all the other kids have got'...

It won?t let you have 1080p with a DVI connection with DVI-to-HDMI adapter? That sucks =(

As for the 360 vs. PS3, graphic wise they are virtually identical. Some games look slightly better on the 360, some look slightly better on the PS3. Some games perform horrendously on the PS3 (Marvel Ultimate Alliance), while they work flawlessly on the Xbox 360. And of course for massive game selection the 360 is the only way to go at the moment... I'd go for a 360 + a Wii, you'd spend about the same price as getting a PS3 and would probably get a better overall experience.

Yeah, the PS3 is about 680? here.. about 850 USD.

I also like the pads on Playstation, and that's one big factor for me as well. I just hope the HD-DVD/Blu-ray fight doesn't get ugly..and if it does, I hope blu-ray triumphs.

I still think Sony should have made the blu-ray feature an add on for the console, like Microsoft did with the HD-DVD add on, rather than just put it there anyway, and bump up the price of the console...

I don't think that assessment is quite right. IMO, you have to get the 'PRO' 360 package. It is a necessity to have a harddrive in a console. And to buy that 20Gig harddrive separately, it's $100 (therefore it makes sense to just get the 'PRO' 360 package). So for $400 USD you get the 360 w/ a harddrive, but no HD-DVD drive. If you want the HD-dvd, you are paying an additional $200 and the total of $600. For $500 USD, you get a blu-ray player and a 20Gig drive (which I believe can easily be swapped out for any off the shelf drive that has 80, or 100 Gigs of capacity). Another option, is to get the 'premimum' 60Gig drive +wifi version of the PS3 for $600.

Also, the HD-dvd add-on thing is weak. I would prefer to just have 1 unit. Wait till they release a 'PRO+HD' version of the 360 that has an internal HD-DVD player. This version will probably have the HDMI goodness, too.

It's better when you can Switch.

Xbox360 is much better overall and will continue to be so. The GPU on the 360 is a lot stronger than the ps3. Oh and you guys in europe are getting fucked by sony. You are getting a gimped PS3 they are taking out the dedicated chip and will be emulating the ps2 backwards compatibility. So more games will work on the launch systems in the US and Japan than will in the new systems. What the fuck is Sony doing? Not to mention no rumble.

I've seen the PS3 in action for a bunch of games, and I've seen the xbox 360 in action on a bunch of games, and there's not much of a comparison. xbox 360 blows PS3 out of the water.

Also, XBox networks with your PC in ways that PS3 will never have, much less compete with. Media Center, comes with Vista, allows you make your XBox a full media/entertainment center.

And Live will join the PC world with the Console world and allow people to play multi-player games cross platforms.

And to top it off, XBox has developed a new XNA framework for programming games for both Windows and Xbox with relative ease.. making games open source for more creativity and limitless programming boundaries/possibilities. Companies can make games faster, cheaper and better and people at home with a dsl connection and some progamming know how can now create the games they've always wanted with nothing more than a quick download of XNA Game Studio Express.
PS3 on the other hand.... well, even the top game companies don't like developing for the PS3, much less have anything to make it faster and easier.

I think M$ has really taken consoles to the next level with the XBox 360... PS3 just can't come close to competing with these features.

You dont care, but others do..
I sold my PS2 but kept loads of PS2 games be course i thought the PS3 was gonna be backwards compatible..

It just sucks asking 40% more and than criple the machine so they can lower production cost..
