Starcraft is still one of the most popular competitive online games in the world (since it was released in 98), and SC2 has been talked about for a LONG damn time. I played both SC2 and Diablo 3 at Blizzcon in 08 and they were both fun. I was a HUGE fan of SC1 - but SC2 feels like an ENTIRELY different game, which I didn't necessarily like. Interesting about Blizzard... I used to be in the gaming industry and got a chance to talk to Rob Pardo at a few event parties and whatnot. He says the trick to producing such a high quality product like they do is not rounds of polish at the end. Instead they polish everything as they go then at the end when they go to put the final round of polish on it's above and beyond what everyone else is going...

i loved the first diablo games so much, that i'll probably have to avoid getting the 3rd. lol. game son the computer are bad news for me. i sit down to work and next thing you know i'm clicking in for "one quick round". i'm bad enough with the xbox, at least i can pry myself away from the tv to get something done once in a while.Comment

I'm beta testing StarCraft 2 now. One word - AWESOME! It's alot like the old one with updated graphics.
It's a breath of fresh air that a decent RTS came out. Blizzard, I thank you for that. EA Games completely train wrecked the command and conquer serious with CNC 4. That was god awful!
The beta for StarCraft closes shortly, it should be available in stores sometime next month

Diablo 2 was arguably the best online game ever made, it achieved near perfection in playability and addiction levels, not to mention crossing over into the real world buying and selling of game items for real money
the long wait for Diablo 3 is probably because it is such a hard act to follow, and World of Warcraft took the attention for those years. Diablo was different than the World of Warcraft type game, something about it made it so much more appealing to many in a more repetitive simplicity way than Wow, but it was that repetitiveness that was a large part of making it so great, we all ran through the same levels, the better players had them all memorized, yet memorizing the 'quests' made them even more fun, and repeat playability was incredible, you could spend weeks playing the same Baal runs and not tire of it, the thrill of the drops made you strive for more and more
truly the crack of video games, as someone else mentioned, I hope to be independently wealthy enough to be able to retire from all work for months so that my computer time will not get distracted away from Diablo3 (that is if Blizzard doesn't fuck it up)

I hope they don't screw up the delicate chemistry of perfection that D2 had with the runes and armor and charms that made the game so compelling

Damn, I remember playing D2 it seems like 10 years ago ... I think it was 1.09 they really did some interesting changes (and making power-leveling a lot harder). I just loaded up my toon with magic find and ran that cave instance in the first act for hours.
Other fond memories include the pre-nerf cow level with my javazon. Just gather up about 50 cows and hit the front one with Lightning Strike (or whatever the spell was called) and loot.
And of course getting a reliable TP sorc and running Baal over and over and over and over and over ... "damn, only 802308203482038234xp to 99!"

I agree, if it wasn't for the hacking and duping we'd probably all still be playing, hopefully they figure out how to keep diablo3 clean of hacks
