Just heading out to vote ...

going to be an interesting night for political nuts like me. I honestly have no idea how the election is going to play out other than knowing my area will go Labour unless something major happens.

I have a nagging feeling about the Tories taking it. Not sure about romping it but all they need is to have had The Sun work its 'magic' and scare people who thought about Lib Dem voting Labour instead and then they win. As a political nut I sort of want a hung parliament for no other reason other than to watch what happens but I think it might just be something the media got excited about.

I was wondering yesterday whether The Sun still had the ability to make enough of a difference. Not been in the newsagents yet today so no idea what they have got on the front page.

I'd like to see a hung parliament just because I'm sure it will turn into a huge backstabbing mess and be funny to watch it unravel.

elections don't change anything. No matter who you vote for, they're all politicians.
We had high hopes for Obama, and he's proven he's just another run of the mill president.
                  they're all the same!

David Cameron mocked up into the famous Obama poster with 'Our Only Hope' under it. Seriously.

And I have an early morning appointment that I have had set up for months. When they announced the election date I couldn't believe it. I am going to have to try to stay up as late as possible to still be able to think straight in the morning.

i found out something suprising. if its a hung parliment and the conservatives have the most seats. gordon brown as the current prime minister gets first attempt to make a coalition government. so cameron could get more seats but brown will stay PM.

It is always the case that the sitting PM is suppose to get the first attempt. However, Clegg just put a stop to that by saying in his view the party that got the most votes (but not a majority) has the right to be the first to try to form a government. Of course, that doesn't mean it will happen as Lib Dems may very well be trying to do a deal that gets election reform on the agenda and could use it as a bargaining tool. The problem is that even with all the labour and lib dem seats they might not get the majority and then a third party has to come into it which would be very odd.

So, I am betting on a Conservative gov't with Lib Dem help if they decide it is needed but they might try to do it without them. Cameron doing press statement at 2:30 so I am guessing that is when we will know how the wind is blowing.

Whatever is certain is that Brown will not be PM for any long term period. Even if somehow Labour wins the fight to be the one that go first to try to form a government he won't be allowed to stay along for long. There will be a leadership contest.

No but I do live in *the* seat (Erith and Thamesmead) whose result tipped this into a hung parliament.

Sarah, analysts are now saying that David Cameron can't give Lib Dems what they want to form a Coalition Government if you like. I'm only going from what I hear on the news channels, but they are saying the Lib Dems want to deal with Labour and are waiting for Cameron to make his offer that won't be sufficient before making the call to Labour.

                                        We shall wait and see.

stolen factoids - "A few facts for you: Did you know ... that the combined Labour and Tory vote is less than two-thirds of the electorate for the first time since 1918?

... that the general election in Scotland might as well have not taken place since, with all the results in, barring one, not a single seat has changed hands against a baseline of 2005 ...

.. what "bellwether" means, as in a bellwether seat? According to wikipedia, the term is derived from the Middle Englishbellewether and refers to the practice of placing a bell around the neck of a castrated ram (a wether) leading its flock of sheep. The movements of the flock could be noted by hearing the bell before the flock was in sight."

I would rather be Gordon Brown than that Ram with a bell round my neck!

I went out of the house for an hour and it all changed. Cameron is going to talk soon. I half think they are going to try to go it alone without making alliances. Going to be interesting but they aren't going to stop until there is no chance of not having Prime Minster Cameron.

Yeah it did seem pretty fucking pointless in the end.

Hours and hours of Prime Time TV debating. Weeks and weeks of begging for peoples votes on the streets. Advertising campaigns. Slagging matches.

Yet in the end, NOTHING changed. Not up here anyway. And we knew the Tories would get more votes than Labour in England, but as everyone guessed aswell, not enough to take over the country outright.

All in all, it feels like i just watched a Cetlic vs Rangers football match, and after all the usual build up and hype, the game finished a boring 0 - 0...

Hey, I only know one couple that will admit to voting Conservative (my inlaws..The Sun told them to) but yet here we are.

A Conservative and Lib Dem government has got to be a recipe for one of the most unhappy marriages ever.

Not much has changed, but the first green seat was won in my constituency. And I voted for her. And I actually feel, for the first time ever, that my vote counted and I helped make a difference.

                                                    Which is nice.

If she was running in our area I would have voted for her too. She always comes off very well in all her press work.

To be fair, Brighton might have a high zombie population.
