So the other day my neighbor kills his wife, then kills himself. They just released the details of how he did it... Turns out, the guy strangles his wife then takes a zip tie and strangles himself with it!

Rocket recovered from this early career setback and acted in many films, including Earth Girls Are Easy, It's Pat, Dances with Wolves, and Dumb & Dumber, often portraying the antagonist. He also lent his voice to popular video game titles Star Wars: Starfighter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (as the character "Nym" in both games), Descent 3, and Age of Mythology.

His final film role came in the 2003 movie Shade, starring Sylvester Stallone and Melanie Griffith.

Charles Rocket's final appearance on television was on the series "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" in 2004. He guest starred playing a bank robber named "Donny DePalma". Coincidentally, the character he portrayed was suicidal.

On October 7, 2005, Rocket's body was discovered by police in his yard in Canterbury, Connecticut; his throat had been cut. The Connecticut state medical examiner later ruled his death a suicide. No foul play is suspected. He is survived by his wife Beth Rocket (Crellin), son Zane, and grandson Ruben.

Some fans were disappointed over the "tribute" on the October 22, 2005, episode of SNL (hosted by Catherine Zeta-Jones). Declining to show even a short clip, the program simply displayed a brief title card on the way to a commercial.

Jonathan Brandis

On November 12, 2003, Brandis died from injuries he suffered after hanging himself the previous day. He was 27 years old. According to his mother, he went out to dinner with friends, then they went back to his apartment at 650 S. Detroit St. His friends reported that he seemed to be agitated and pacing around quite a bit. He left the room and, approximately 15 minutes later, one of his friends went looking for him and found him hanging by a nylon rope in the second floor hallway of his building. His friends cut him down and called paramedics. Despite efforts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead. The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement regarding his death:

On November 11, 2003, at about 11:40 p.m., a friend of Jonathan Brandis called police to report that the actor had attempted suicide at his apartment, located in the 600 block of Detroit Avenue. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire department [sic] responded and transported Brandis to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he eventually died from his injuries. Brandis' death was announced by hospital staff on November 12, 2003, at about 2:45 p.m." ([1]).

Jonathan apparently did not leave a note of any kind. According to his mother, he had no prior suicide attempts, drank socially, quit smoking over two years prior, and did not abuse drugs. There were no personal problems, except for the fact that he could be quite hard on himself. She has also questioned whether his use of the acne drug Accutane may be to blame, citing that one of the clinical side effects has been said to be psychosis and suicide. In a People magazine article, friends were quoted as saying he was lonely and depressed about his career lull. One friend said he knew Brandis drank heavily and had even told friends that he might kill himself. He was also said to be upset when his appearance in Hart's War, a role he hoped would be his comeback, was cut from the film.
