        Based off the mild info in this thread, it appears you know how to pay him... just pay it, your invoice is the email saying he would do the work for that price. You don't need an actual paper that is all pretty with the word invoice on it.

        Lawyer wise... they won't entertain it, the story makes no difference.

                This guy questioned him and he doesn't like that. So now he's just going to do whatever he can to deflect and not pay this guy.

                                        As someone who hires people, gets hired and has had programs - when something like this comes up, legit, mistake, whatever - you do whatever it takes to make it go away.

                                                        Retainer is no different than if I called up a lawyer and hired them, it just means you pay a guy to listen to your bullshit more... and his one hour of work on retainer, is probably more than the amount owed.

                                                        If your lawyer is any good he will tell you this is stupid and when you lose you're going to have to pay the other lawyers fees and probably court costs, then he's probably going to tell you to pay the man and then take $200-300 off the retainer for you wasting his time.
