Should we not bother with any immigration laws then? "you're here, you're a citizen"?
It may be difficult to lawfully gain citizenship here, but a heck of a lot of people have. The reason WHY there's that difficulty is that so someone can't just walk in and leech off the system. Otherwise, if our country would allow that, then we should expect the rest of the world to as well, in which case our immigration issues can then be shared by the world. Sounds good to me.
My personal stance is that I do feel for the illegal immigrants who are coming here because their home country is shitting on them and they have nothing else they can do to survive. It IS unfortunate and hopefully someday Mexico especially can get its act together so people can reasonable live/survive okay there. As it is though, there's also a lot of illegal immigrants that come over illegally to stay off the radar for the sole purpose of committing crimes, and we have to have SOME way to stop that problem vs. simply saying there's nothing we can do about it, fact of life, etc. If it means some of the poor illegal immigrants who simply want to come here to work and survive with their families have to go, then perhaps they should look into the proper and legal means into getting citizenship here, which is what so many LEGAL immigrants are doing. That or for anyone in AZ right now, relocate to CA where I doubt a law like this would be passed until a decade or two now at least. Hell, CA would sooner exile smokers than illegals.
The whole cheap labor aspect of it can and should be dealt with by targetting corps that hire illegals. They'll have to pay more for their labor, but if they don't like it, they can relocate to a different country, and many have. Oh well - their loss in the long run IMO.
