If I write a check and it's no good if the bank wants to charge me an overdraft fee or if it bounces and they want to charge me an NSF fee, fine. But if I deposit a check and the check bounces I don't think banks should charge the depositor, yet they do.
It's been a long time since I've had a depositied check bounce (knock on wood), but I want to say my bank knocks me back like $25-$35 a pop.
Personally, I think it's bullshit, you get left holding the bag not only by the author of the check but also stuck with bank fees to boot. I'm not so naive I don't know why they do it, banks are a business too, but it doesn't mean that I don't think it's bullshit.
