I remember the backlash when stumbleupon started paid stumbles. Donors could disable the paid stumbles but the free users couldn't. The free users bitched and moaned for months rather than just coughing up $20 to help out a service they spent lots of time on.

Spending lots of time on it is the first indication that there may be a problem, the fuckwits that hang out on twitter won't pay shit for shit aside from their ISP [if lucky]. It is about the same as forum traffic.
